Girls basketball looks to shoot forward in district play

By Seth Slover Staff Writer One of the most daunting tasks for a teams is to make up ground in order to catch up in the standings.  Currently with a record of 5-9, the Cowgirls basketball team is looking to get things going in district play. “We played a bunch of really good teams in non-district play,” junior forward Kara Williamson said.  ”We have a losing record right now, but it’s our district record that matters.” The goal for this Cowgirl team is to qualify for playoffs.  In coach Nicole Collins’ first season at Coppell, she hopes to build a program at CHS.  The first step toward building that program, Collins says, is making the…

Cross country heads to district, girls advance to Region

With a chance to go to area on the line, the girls team delivered, with 4 runners placing in the top 20. The girls came in second place out of eight, and earned a spot at the Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas. The boys gave it all they had, with impressive performances from junior Clayton Hemphill, and sophomore Carson Vickroy, placing 17th and 15th respectively. Varsity squad with crowd in backfield

By John Loop Staff Writer Even with the departure of heralded running back Cam McDaniel to Notre Dame, the Coppell Cowboys varsity football team is having no trouble finding a replacement to fill the shoes of a very talented player. With McDaniel now a member of the Fighting Irish, coaches began to look for a candidate to replace him. They finally settled on junior Luke Jenner, who is a first-year varsity starter. “I was really nervous at the start of the season, worried that I wasn’t going to be able to produce. At 10-2, Coppell sits one game behind the Dragons (11-1) for first place in the district. Cowboys extend district win streak to five

Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor Following an embarrassing 8-0 loss to Southlake Carroll on March 22, the Coppell Cowboys baseball team fell to 2-2 in district play. Since then, however, the team has been firing on all cylinders, and they have won five district matchups in a row. Coppell started the turnaround with a strong 8-3 win over Justin Northwest on March 25, and then made a statement with a 23-5 rout over Keller. The Cowboys have won 11 of their first 12 games in district play this year and have gone undefeated against 7-5A opponents on the road. After losing their second game of the district season to Southlake Carroll in early Jan., Coppell has won 10 games in row with two more games to play. The title marks the first district title for Coppell since the 2004-05 season. Cowboys basketball to start district play on Tuesday

The Cowboys, who recently finished second in the Cedar Hill Tournament, have a 10-4 record in 2010. That is good for second place in District 7-5A behind Justin Northwest, who sit at 13-1 thus far.  Those records are essentially meaningless, however, as the four teams with the best record against their divisional opponents in each district qualify for the state playoffs.
