Volleyball senior night results in win

By Seth Slover Staff Writer Seniors Bear Bass, Sarah Arnold, Kristen Dickerson and Kierra Holst could not have asked for a better way to end the regular season of their senior year.  By cruising to a relatively easy victory over Denton Guyer, the volleyball team can now look forward to the playoffs. The night started off with the team running onto the court to warm up to some pre-game music.  The crowd was active and energetic early. Game one was close at the beginning.  Junior Erica Bohannon spiked the ball to break a 7-7 tie early on.  This was closely followed by back-to-back spikes by Junior Chiaka Ogbogu to extend the lead to 10-7.  The…

New football season brings new opportunities, challenges for Cowboys

Thomas Hair Staff Writer Until the final second of the final game, last year’s Coppell Cowboys football season was a glorious one. Characterized by colossal victories and a District 7-5A title, last season cemented Coppell’s place as one of the elite football programs in the state. Saying that there is pressure for this year’s team to succeed would be a massive understatement. “The expectations are really high since the guys from last year really put us on the map,” sophomore defensive back Troy Parker said. “So everyone’s really looking up to that for us to keep our record up.” But this year’s team is not the same as its predecessors. The Cowboys lost many starters…

Varsity Baseball hits streak with win over Saginaw

Thomas Hair Staff Writer The CHS Varsity Baseball Team easily disposed of Saginaw earlier tonight, racking up the runs en route to a 12-4 victory. This was the Cowboys’ best display of scoring power since their 23-5 massacre of Keller weeks ago.  Tonight’s thrashing of Saginaw was a strong home win for the Cowboys as they come down the final stretch of district play and serves as a testament to how dangerous the Cowboys could be in the playoffs. With only eight games remaining, the Cowboys have compiled an impressive 19-5-2 record. Coach Don English’s squad has had a landmark year for the program thus far, being one of the clear favorites to win district.  Leaders such…

Football site raises hopes

By Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor www.5atexasfootball.com is the best site for any high-school-football-obsessed person. However, with Coppell High School’s team ranked so high on the list for the best of the state, it’s reasonable to wonder how much of this is hope and how much is fact. Believe me, I would love for Coppell to actually be the fifth best 5A team in Texas, but it’s difficult for me to believe. Our team hasn’t faced any major challenges yet. Though we have dominated the teams we have played, they are not up to par with, let’s just say, the newly 5A Denton Guyer team. Certainly, the Denton Guyer game will be the first big test…

Update on transportation issues

The new athletics district was announced recently and it is beginning to concern many coaches and sponsors. The main issue is the time it takes to get to these schools. Before, the district consisted of mostly Lewisville ISD schools, all of which are less than ten miles from CHS. However several of the schools added to the district, such as Saginaw and Denton Guyer, are more than thirty minutes away. The prices of bus transportation, as mentioned in the article “Wheels on the bus go round, as budget stretches thin”, are the main concern for organizations that do any kind of competition that involves travel. This district change could mean more money trouble for the…
