By Julianne Cauley News Editor Too many times, the daily privileges of this wealthy community are overlooked. Most students look at lunch as their social break of the day. No thought is ever spent on how lucky one is to have a meal at all. According to Compassion International, 16,000 children die per day from hunger related causes alone. When broken down, that simplifies to one death every five seconds. Since you began reading this story, the lives of five malnourished children have been lost. Founded in 1952, Compassion International has served as a Christian child-development ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty, enabling them to become responsible, fulfilled adults. What I learned at Dallas Morning News Day

Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer On Wednesday, I traveled with seven other newspaper students to SMU in Dallas where we all attended Dallas Morning News Day. The event consisted of two sessions where we were able to choose different seminars to attend. The journalists who spoke at the seminars were extremely inspiring. Coming home, I felt like I now had all of the tools to become a successful journalist, even if I haven’t decided whether or not I will always want to pursue it. Jean-Jacques Taylor, a sports columnist for the Dallas Morning News, and his colleagues from the sports world gave the room of budding journalists, innumerable journalism tips. I learned three very important lessons…

CHS prepares to welcome freshmen

Frances Ruiz Staff Writer While no thoughts are more terrifying to an incoming freshman than mercilessly being thrown over the senior bridge or having to eat the sack lunch mom packed alone in the bathroom, certain measures have been taken by Coppell High School and New Tech High@Coppell to help students adjust to the upcoming period of change and transition. Taking place from Feb. 15-17, eighth graders throughout CISD ventured outside of their CMS North, East and West comfort zones to bravely face the unknowns of high school. During the scheduled visits to their next home away from home, the incoming freshman class was able to familiarize itself with the unique facets of campus, such…

Snow day make-up set for June 3

By Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer After the fabulous snow day everyone enjoyed last Friday, many people must be wondering when we will make up that lost day of learning. In an email from Tracey Wallace, Executive Director of Human Resources for CISD, the fears of many were confirmed: the state will not let the district count the day as ‘instructional’, so a makeup day is obligatory. CISD has chosen to make up the missing day on Friday, June 3, the day after the school year was originally scheduled to end. However, April 2, the day when many normally celebrate Good Friday, will still be a day off for everyone if weather permits.

Please, let them be good

By Wren Culp Staff Writer I am not interested in seeing any movies this weekend. Why you ask? Because all of them are going to be terrible. Percy Jackson. A small rip off of Harry Potter and will be just a childish movie. No background knowledge behind it, and no fun whatsoever. Unless your 12. You can watch the trailer here. Valentine’s Day. This movie has the potential to be excellent, considering it’s all star cast, but it’s a romantic comedy about a subject that has been buried alive so many times. You can watch the trailer here. Now, here is one that I think will be amazing, just to counter-balance all of my hate. The…
