Over the summer, it rarely rained. Combined with the scorching heat, this created one of the worst droughts in Texas history. Ring ceremony commemorates Maverick’s winning season

The ceremony commemorated each member of  the Maverick’s team and their  journey through the winning season with a video of the championship trophy, highlights from the finals and playoffs and journey to the White House. Cuban’s presentation of the rings was delayed because of the NBA lockout, but the ceremony completely captured the essence of the Maverick’s championship win. Jingle Bell Run will be a fun race for all ages

By Caroline Carter Staff Writer On Dec. 21, the 2011 Jingle Bell Run will take place at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. This will be a very fun event for all ages as there is a 1 mile race as well as a 5k. Part of the fun is also seeing everyone dressed up as reindeers, elves and Santas. The race will begin at 6:30 and costs 25 dollars for those wishing to register on the day of the race. The Jingle Bell Run benefits the Trinity Strand Trail and the Mavericks Foundation. ESPN Dallas lets it snow

Starting at 9am this morning and running until 11pm tonight, the event is at the Dallas House of Blues and is open to the public of all ages. The Snow Day benefits Toys for Tots, and admission is a toy or cash donation to the charity. The event will include live broadcasts, live music, door prizes, photo booths and games throughout the day. DNA found for local rapist targeting sorority alumnae

By Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer This past Tuesday Dallas police was able to gather a DNA profile on a man suspected to have lead a series of what was then determined to be sexual assaults targeting the female African-American sorority, Delta Sigma Theta in the Dallas area this past year. The assaults occurred on Nov. 11, 2010, and April 2 in Plano, on Sept. 15 in Coppell and on Oct. 14 in Shady Shores. According to the Los Angeles Times, police first said they had a “person of interest” in the case, based on surveillance video taken in June; now they say the heavyset man in the video has indeed been linked to the assaults. Registration for annual Turkey Trot begins

By Caroline Carter Staff Writer Every Thanksgiving Day the Dallas YMCA and Capital One Bank put on the annual Turkey Trot. Registration has begun and it will be a fun event for the whole family. The Turkey Trot began 43 years ago and was originally held at White Rock Lake but is now held in Downtown Dallas. This year runners have the option of running or walking either eight miles or a 5k. The Turkey Trot is a tradition that attracts thousands of people from across the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. Yesterday, the NBA announced that since lockout negotiations between players and owners have not resolved several issues, the NBA will be forced to cancel the first two weeks of the 2011-2012 season. Even worse, if negotiating continues to go nowhere, the whole season may be canceled altogether. As for the Mavericks, there is good and bad news if the season is cancelled.
