Prepare for a roller coaster ride with “Black Swan”

By Wren Culp Staff Writer Before I get started, I want to warn people that this film is not for everybody. This is not a “friday night with friends” film. This film is out there, off the walls and a lot of film to comprehend. I’ve seen my fair share of films in my short life. I’ve seen classics to rom-com’s and everything in between. But with Black Swan, the new film by Darren Aronofsky, I can’t put a classification on this type of film, because I’ve never seen anything like it. Black Swan pushes it’s protagonist Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), a ballerina from Manhattan to the brink of insanity and back. With the overwhelming…

ACCIO! Harry Potter blasts its way back into theaters

By Wren Culp Staff Writer It’s hard to believe that the “Potter world” was created on the corner of a napkin by author J.K. Rowling. To start on a napkin and end as one of the greatest grossing film series of all time is pretty unbelievable, and the conclusion to the saga will definitely bring sadness to the Potter universe. Harry and the gang are growing up. The hard times and horrors they faced at Hogwarts when they were first years are nothing compared to what they have overcome, and what still awaits them in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. The film seems to pick up right where the sixth, Harry Potter…

Cowboys tame Wildcats 23-6, advance to second round

By Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor Coming off of the best regular season in school history, the Coppell Cowboys further displayed their potency in a 23-6 victory over Plano High School in the first round of the playoffs. The defense was the story for the Cowboys all game, limiting Plano to a pair of field goals while intercepting three passes and sacking quarterback Conner Michelson seven times. Senior cornerback Daniel Logan led the way for the Cowboys, intercepting a pair of passes in the win. On offense, the Cowboys were held to just one touchdown, a 13-yard pass from senior quarterback Joe Minden to senior wide receiver Tyler Landis, in the first half. They broke out…

Students and teachers ride with Cowboy Pride in annual Homecoming Parade

By Michelle Pitcher Opinions Editor Video by Wren Culp and Mason Adams. Footage courtesy of Adam Borel Coppell residents of all ages braved the heat on Thursday, Sept. 9, to take part in the annual Coppell High School Homecoming Parade. Many changes were made this year in order to improve safety as well as the overall experience for viewers and participants alike. Although the parade did not start until 6:15 p.m., floats began lining up in the Verizon parking lot at 5:00 to claim the coveted first spots in the parade line-up. While waiting, some organizations put the finishing touches on their floats, while others socialized and observed other entries. Morale was high amongst the…

The Jersey Shore: Stupid but Funny

Chase Porter Staff Writer The extremely popular show, The Jersey Shore, that airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. is at the middle of its second season on MTV. The show is full of fights between the roommates and the crazy drama which happens when you put a bunch of people in the same house with each other. The episode that aired last night took a turn for the super dramatic when two of the girls, Jewoww and Sammi, got into a fist fight and the house was split into new alliances. Many viewers that I know who watch the show religiously say that the episode last night was the best yet of the season purely…

Nutrition and Food Science class gets some changes

By Wren Culp Staff Writer When the economic crisis hit America, people knew it wouldn’t be long before classrooms would be feeling the heat too. Everyone knew that at some point it would hit Coppell High School as well. That time has come. Nutrition and Food Science is a class where students get to learn about cooking, preparation of cooking, and even get science credits for it. But now, the popular cooking class will be taking a slightly different approach on “nutrition”. “The new class is going to be called Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness,” said Nutrition and Food Science teacher Ms. Richards. “There will be no more food preparation.” The class will focus  more and the well-being of…

Robin Hood’s untold story comes to life

By Wren Culp Staff Writer On May 12th I got the exclusive opportunity to see ROBIN HOOD before most people. The theatre was packed, my drink was in hand and Russell Crowe was on screen. What could be better? The movie is set in the 12th century with King Richard in power of London, with France of the verge of an invasion. Robin Longstride, or better known as “Robin of the hood”, is an archer for Richard’s army. The movie is all about Longstride’s journey through the army and how he breaks off from the army to fight for what is right. With a stellar performance from Crowe (no shocker) and a surprisingly good performance…
