Girls cross country look to continue success at region
By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer The Cross Country girls team will be competing this Saturday in the Region 1 championships to continue to work they’re way to state. After a strong third place finish last Thursday at the District 7-5A Championships, the Coppell Cowgirls Cross Country team is looking a potential state run this postseason. Kaleigh Irvin, Katie Sandfort, Stephanie Bilka, and Alyssa Moino have lead the team this year, and all finished in the top 20 at district. They hope to continue this success, and advance the team to state for the first time since 2007. The Region 1 Championships take place this Saturday, November the 5th, in Lubbock, Texas. Cross country heads to district, girls advance to Region
By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer The Coppell High School cross country team competed to extend their season this morning at the District 7-5A Championships. With a chance to go to area on the line, the girls team delivered, with 4 runners placing in the top 20. The girls came in second place out of eight, and earned a spot at the Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas. The boys gave it all they had, with impressive performances from junior Clayton Hemphill, and sophomore Carson Vickroy, placing 17th and 15th respectively. By Jay Carroll Staff Writer You may have watched NFL games this month where the players were wearing pink towels, shoes or gloves with their uniforms in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Coppell Cross Country team will be participating in the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” this weekend. The cross country team usually participates in other schools’ meets on Saturdays, but not this time. Seniors Jordan Williams and Travis Huffmaster have been at the front of the pack since they both first joined the program in their freshmen years. Junior Weston Sandfort has also been a familiar name on the varsity team for courses. Cross Country makes State
By Mike Pankonien Staff Writer The Coppell Cross country girls varsity team qualified for state last weekend by placing in the top three at the regional championships. Junior Kim Kirby also qualified for region individually by placing third at the overall regional meet. The team will travel to Old Settlers Park in Round Rock this Saturday where they will go up against approximately 12 other teams and roughly 80 other kids. Now all that remains for Coppell before the playoffs kick off is their final district game against Flower Mound on Friday night. Girls cross country ready for state
By Mike Pankonien Staff Writer Seven races down, three races to go. As the season draws closer and closer to the qualifying meets for state, the warm ups get longer and the days get shorter. However, if there is team in the state that’s going to be ready for district, it is the Coppell girls cross country team. Meeting at the school at 6:30 a.m., the girl’s team runs a course in preparation for the big day. The course takes individuals different times to complete, but the team always starts together. Cowgirls seize 1st at meet
Coppell Cross Country seized the day last weekend at the McKinny Boyd Invitational. Fielding runners in the both varsity and junior varsity events, the girls varsity team took 1st and girls junior varstiy made 2nd. Meanwhile, the boys teams excelled to take 3rd in bot varsity and junior varsity. The top runners in boys varsity include Colton Reese with 10th place and Jordan Williams with 17th place. Girls varsity include Kim Kirby with 2nd and Kaleigh Ervin with 5th. Top junior varsity runners were Drew Armenta with 6th, John De la Chapelle with 8th, Alyssa Shelton with 2nd, and Alex Rapert with 5th.
