Cowboys soccer looks to keep up undefeated season against Keller

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboys will face their toughest opponent in district on Friday night in Keller at home. Keller is currently second in district with only one tie against Denton Guyer and no losses, including a win against Southlake Carroll. While Keller hasn’t been as dominant as Coppell they have fared fairly well in district holding every opponent to one point or less. Coppell has had some issues with their defense in the past few games, excluding their back line. To keep Keller from scoring they’re definitely going to have to tighten up and organize this game. Denton Guyer falls to Coppell in last regular season game

By Mary Whitfill Features Editor The Coppell Cowboys basketball team finished their regular season with a 60-47 win against the Denton Guyer Wildcats on Tuesday, securing their second place standing in district 7-5A. This win finalized the Cowboys record of 24-8 this season. Cowboy seniors led the team in scoring with Jett Raines scoring 21 points, followed by Austin Mankin with 11 points. Heath Heidtke and Warren Oishi each had eight points and Martin Kalev had six. “This season has been great just trying to go out and pay hard,” Raines said. “I don’t see a reason that we can’t keep winning [in playoffs], we’re just taking it one game at a time.” The Coppell…

Basketball players top list of best area teams

Jett Raines ranks 3rd in area 5A schools for points per game at 17.0, 2nd in points overall with 527, and 3rd in rebounds with 288. Warren Oishi is 3rd in assists with 177, putting him at 5th in assists per game with 5.7. Last time the Cowboys played the 11-16 Denton Guyer Wildcats, the won by a narrow margin, 59-54. Tennis team feels the love at Valentine Elite tournament, continues successful season

Yet, the CHS squad has found successs thus far in the young spring season. The team captured 1st place at the Keller Tournament two weeks ago, and has delivered other favorable results since then. After competing in a varsity tournament on Friday and Saturday, the Cowboys and Cowgirls had to quickly turn around and host the “Valentine Elite” tournament on Monday, Feb. 13. Cowboys lose heartbreaker to Central, 43-41

By John Loop Staff Writer Although it was Senior Night, the Cowboys effort was not enough to pull of a win, losing to Keller Central, 43-41. Senior point guard Warren Oishi paced the Cowboys with 15 points, Austin Mankin added 9 points on three three-pointers in the first half, but the Cowboys were held to 14 points over the last two quarters. After starting the game on a 10-8 run, the Cowboys were held to just 3 more points, as Keller answered with a 6-3 run of their own. Cowboys dominate Saginaw in first district game

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboy soccer team started off district play with a 3-0 rout of Saginaw to start district play on Tuesday night. Coppell dominated the game from the beginning playing a possession oriented game with a lot of short passing, in contrast to Saginaw’s play which tried to work the ball up the field as quickly as possible. Coppell maintained possession for well over the majority of the game within the opposing half of the field, stopping Saginaw offensive attempts almost as soon as they started. Both the boys and girls teams have State Championships under their belt and are consisten postseason contenders. Even for the most successful of teams, however, being ranked first in the entire state of Texas is a prodigious honor. Only a few weeks into the 2012 season, the Cowboys have achieved that honor. Cowboys play Southlake at home tomorrow

By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer Tomorrow the Cowboys and Cowgirls basketball teams will take on our hated rivals, the Southlake Dragons, in the big gym at Coppell High School. In their last matchup, the Cowboys killed the Dragons with a score of 59-32. They look to build on their recent success, winning the last 4 of their 6 games. The girls didn’t fare so well in their last matchup with the lady Dragons, losing by a score of 59-24. They are looking to turn their season around, and look to avenge their last loss.
