Dragons scorch Cowboys, 27-10
By John LoopStaff Writer In one of Texas high school football’s biggest match-ups of the season, Coppell couldn’t stop Southlake from running away with a victory in the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter. The first three and a half quarters were a defensive stalemate for both teams. The Cowboys were outscored in the second half, 14-7 , on the way to a 27-10 defeat. The first half of the game was a competitive battle. Coppell’s defense held Southlake’s offense, led by junior quarterback Kenny Hill, to 13 points in the first two periods of play. But the Dragons’ tenacious front seven wreaked havoc on the Coppell offensive line all night long. Hill was held without a touchdown pass for the 2nd game all…

Varsity squad with crowd in backfield
By John Loop Staff Writer Even with the departure of heralded running back Cam McDaniel to Notre Dame, the Coppell Cowboys varsity football team is having no trouble finding a replacement to fill the shoes of a very talented player. With McDaniel now a member of the Fighting Irish, coaches began to look for a candidate to replace him. They finally settled on junior Luke Jenner, who is a first-year varsity starter. “I was really nervous at the start of the season, worried that I wasn’t going to be able to produce. I also have some really big shoes to fill stepping into Cam’s place this year,” Jenner said. Through three games, Jenner has run…
Coppell vs. Jesuit preview
By Chris Reagan Staff writer The past two games have started a little rough for the Cowboys, falling behind early and having to play catch up. In the second half Coppell has outscored opponents 34-0. The defense is going to have to be on the ball early in the game if they want to keep up with the high powered Jesuit offense that has scored over 40 points in their first two games. Coppell will have to focus on stopping the passing game and key into top receiver Jake Oliver who already has 406 yards this season and five touchdowns. The linebackers are going to have to also put pressure on quarterback Jack Brezette in…

Larson impresses in spring game
By Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor At the conclusion of the Coppell Cowboys’ football spring game on Thursday night, a game in which the starting offense (Red Team) beat the starting defense (Black) 20-0, junior quarterback Jake Larson had to have been feeling pleased with his performance. Larson is slated to take over the reigns at pass-thrower from senior Joe Minden, who threw 3436 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2010. The junior, standing a 6-4, 240, was impressive in the Coppell exhibition, as he led the Cowboys’ projected starting offense on several strong drives. The quarterback helped lead the Red Team to the red zone on the opening drive before running back Luke Jenner scored an…

Cowboys look to obtain series lead following rescheduling
By Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor Coming off a series sweep of Flower Mound last weekend, the Coppell Cowboys baseball team begins their second round series tonight against L.D. Bell with hopes of opening a 1-0 series lead. The series was slated to begin last night in Coppell, but rain from the previous night left the field too wet to play on. The Cowboys will instead host game two at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and game three (if necessary) thirty minutes after the second game ends. The Cowboys will look to replicate their first round success in this series, as they won by scores of 9-2 and 12-0 in their two games against Flower Mound. The…
Three game series with L.D. Bell set, favors Cowboys
Adam Bremner Staff Writer The Coppell Cowboys baseball team will be looking to bring out the brooms once again this week as they will face L.D. Bell next in a 3 game series. After easily sweeping Flower Mound in two games, Coppell coach Don English and L.D. Bell’s manager conducted a coin flip which resulted in the three game format rather then the one game sudden death. And quite frankly, this set up will assist the Cowboys as they have not fair well in recent years when entering one game rounds. Expecially this team, which thrives of power and hitting as opposed to having that single picther that can win any game for a team. Even…
