By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer The Coppell Cowboys varsity hockey team is looking to turn the year around and make a run at the playoffs down the stretch of this season. With only 5 games left this season, the Cowboys look to change their luck, starting tonight in their game against Plano West. Currently in last place with a 5-12-1 record, the Cowboys have a chance to move up a couple spots with wins in each of their last 5 games. Heading into the playoffs, a better seed would offer the team a better chance at going far into the playoffs with hopes of capturing their second state title. Come out and support your Cowboys…

Battle against the bell: keeping tardies to a minimum

Tardies

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer The music comes to a stop and the students’ hearts quicken as they realize they have only a minute until class starts – now it is a race against time. As they quicken their pace through the halls, they are fast-walking to their class praying they will not be tardy. As the classroom door comes into sight, the late bell rings throughout the halls, signaling the students’ defeat and their tardiness. As part of a large high school, it is likely that most students will become tardy at least once in the course of their four-year stay at CHS. It is to be expected when a student has to journey…

Pennies For Patients, fights against leukemia one penny at a time

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer This year Coppell High School partnered with Pennies for Patients to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and managed to raise $1360. The point of this fundraiser is to collect as much change as students can offer; they accept all forms of change such as dimes, quarters, and pennies, hence the name “Pennies for Patients”. The three classes that raised the most change were Coach Robertson’s, Coach McBride’s and Mr. Harris’s fourth period classes. These classes earned the traditional pizza party. This year, however, Coppell did not make it as one of the top collectors. But next year, if we manage to raise enough money, our school can win many…

Cowboy’s basketball wins season opener against Plano East

by Coleman Armes Staff Writer With the basketball season tipping off the Coppell Cowboy’s came out and beat the Plano East Panthers 60-41. This game was not only just the start of the season for the Cowboys it was also the beginning of the long road to defend their district championship, which they earned last year. It also was sort of a rivalry game as these two teams have met in their season openers 15 straight times now. The game started off and the Cowboys looked strong with senior guard Warren Oishi throwing up a pass for senior forward Jett Raines, who made an impressive dunk. By the end of the first quarter the Cowboys lead the…

By Seth Slover Staff Writer Senior inside linebacker Aaron Reck’s high school football career has been a rollercoaster, to say the least.  With a number of reoccurring knee injuries, Reck has gone through a great deal of adversity to be on the field. Originally, this story was heading in a different direction.  This was going to be a story about Reck’s optimistic attitude amidst the difficult fact that he was not going to be able to play his senior season due to injury.  However, fortunately for Reck, this story – as well as his own – has taken a turn for the better. Just any inside linebacker has, he has endured his share of injuries. …

By John LoopStaff Writer In one of Texas high school football’s biggest match-ups of the season, Coppell couldn’t stop Southlake from running away with a victory in the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter.  The first three and a half quarters were a defensive stalemate for both teams. The Cowboys were outscored in the second half, 14-7 , on the way to a 27-10 defeat. The first half of the game was a competitive battle. Coppell’s defense held Southlake’s offense, led by junior quarterback Kenny Hill, to 13 points in the first two periods of play. But the Dragons’ tenacious front seven wreaked havoc on the Coppell offensive line all night long. Hill was held without a touchdown pass for the 2nd game all…

By John Loop Staff Writer Even with the departure of heralded running back Cam McDaniel to Notre Dame, the Coppell Cowboys varsity football team is having no trouble finding a replacement to fill the shoes of a very talented player. With McDaniel now a member of the Fighting Irish, coaches began to look for a candidate to replace him. They finally settled on junior Luke Jenner, who is a first-year varsity starter. “I was really nervous at the start of the season, worried that I wasn’t going to be able to produce. I also have some really big shoes to fill stepping into Cam’s place this year,” Jenner said. Through three games, Jenner has run…

Coppell vs. Jesuit preview

By Chris Reagan Staff writer The past two games have started a little rough for the Cowboys, falling behind early and having to play catch up. In the second half Coppell has outscored opponents 34-0. The defense is going to have to be on the ball early in the game if they want to keep up with the high powered Jesuit offense that has scored over 40 points in their first two games. Coppell will have to focus on stopping the passing game and key into top receiver Jake Oliver who already has 406 yards this season and five touchdowns. The linebackers are going to have to also put pressure on quarterback Jack Brezette in…
