Community gardens to host tree planting class
By Kelly Stewart Opinions Editor On October 1st, the Coppell Community Garden will have a tree planting class at the William T. Cozby Public Library. The class is free, and includes a discussion about trees and planting advice, with the opportunity to help plant a tree in the garden afterwards. Leading the class will be Dallas Regional Urban Forester of the Texas Forest Service, Micah Pace. An expert in forestry and the environment, he has worked across the U.S. and has earned a Master of Science in Forestry. This event promises to be fun and informative, and all ages are welcome. Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Video coming soon The Coppell Community Gardens is one of Coppell’s most beautiful and unknown assets, up-kept by the few dozen of dedicated volunteers who wake each Saturday morning to prepare the fruits of their labor for pick-up by the Metrocrest Foodbank. Harvesting, weighing and bagging the produce, tilling soil, mulching, turning compost and fertilizing and watering plots only names a fraction of what it takes to create over 1,642 pounds of edible produce in one winter month. Coppell has two of these volunteer-run gardens, the Helping Hands garden beside Town Center and the Ground Delivery garden beside the Post Office. Last minute NHS hours still available
By Loren Hughes Staff Writer As the end of the year comes to a close, National Honor Society members find themselves scrambling to finish their last minute required group and individual community service hours. Well, not to worry, because there are still many places that are available, even for group hours. A few excellent places to get individual hours are the Coppell Community Gardens (which offers double hours), Coppell Teen Court (which also offers double hours), Petsmart and the Coppell Public Library.
