Band to go to DMI contest this weekend

This contest is held every year and 20 area bands are chosen to compete based on their past record of success. The CHS band has had a great marching season so far, winning 7 awards at the Mesquite Marching Festival and earning a First Division at the UIL contest. The DMI contest is the second most important contest of the season, the most important being the Bands of America contest that will be taking place next weekend. Rohloff to get new classroom
By Sarah Police Staff Writer This week, CHS world history teacher Brian Rohloff was awarded a $10,000 makeover for his classroom courtesy of BKM. BKM is a well-known furniture company that furnishes many things, including: classrooms, offices, homes and lunch rooms. This is the first year that BKM has offered the chance to win prize money for classroom renovations. Rohloff originally found out about this opportunity through the email blasts the administrators had sent out. “They [BKM] sent out competition details to school districts they’ve done work for in the past,” Rohloff said. “The administration here just filtered it down to us [teachers]. APES students launch sustainability initiatives
By Mary Whitfill Features Editor AP Environmental Science (APES) classes are becoming ‘agents of change’ as they participate in the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge. The challenge is a project-based sustainability competition for high school students encouraging the creation of solutions to community environmental problems. Teams participating in the challenge must select an environmental topic relating to energy, biodiversity, land management, water conservation and cleanup, or climate. Groups consist of two to four students and the challenge is open until March 15. “We are working on getting a recycling incentive passed in the city of Coppell to address the major littering problem present in our parks,” APES senior Avery Sauders said. “We hope…
Coppell Community Garden holds photography contest
Ashleigh Heaton Editor-in-Chief The Coppell Community Garden is seeking young photographers from Coppell, New Tech and Ranchview High School in their latest photography contest. Photographers are asked to take photos of the Coppell Community Gardens or the Coppell Farmers Market and submit them for consideration. The winner of the contest will be awarded $50 and announced in May. If you are interested in submitting your photography, you can send a maximum of 4 photos to TrudyWhite434@hotmail.com with your name, school, phone number and address included. All photos sent in will become property of the Coppell Community Garden Corporation, so be sure to keep that in mind while submitting.
‘Youth in the Square’ art contest
Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer Hey, Coppell High School art students! If you are interested in having your artwork on display or competing in a contest, a new opportunity is now available. Students can enter the Youth in the Square contest through an online application with a $10 fee. Some prize money will be awarded. The contest is not until April 15- 17, but entries are being accepted now. The artwork will be on display at the Southlake Town Square in Southlake, TX. It is not only a scholastic event, but features professional artists as well.
Lariettes take fourth place for second weekend in a row
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager The past weekend, the Lariettes had the opportunity to show off their talents once again at the American Dance/Drill Team Competition of Texas, also known as the Texas Dance Classic. After weeks of personal preparation for solos and a year’s worth of morning practices in prep for football season, pep rallies and competitions like this, the Coppell Lariettes proceeded to dominate at Rowlett High School, competiing in pom, jazz, hip-hop and kick, coming into fourth place overall. CHS Marching Band crushes competition in Mesquite
By Thomas Hair Staff Writer The Coppell High School Marching Band has been extremely successful over the past decade and is recognized as one of the most prestigious high school bands in the state of Texas. After hundreds of hours of work – both in the summer and after school – this year’s band is on track to have an amazing year. Their first contest of the season took place at Mesquite Memorial Stadium for the Mesquite Marching Festival on Saturday, October 2nd. 32 bands from all classifications came out to compete in this all-day event, and the competition was fierce. Madrigals score high note at contest
by Melissa Brisco staff writer Last weekend, on March 6th the CHS Madrigals traveled to San Antonio, TX to compete in the American Classic Madrigals and Chamber Choir Festivals. The Madrigals have competed in this competition multiple times before and always do well. This year, the Madrigals received the honor of first runner up. The American Classic Madrigals and Chamber Choir Festival is similar to what a UIL state competition would be if there was one for Madrigals choirs. Band leaves for state
The band is leaving for state tomorrow very early in the morning: 1 a.m. to be exact. And this will be after having two hour rehersals everyday after school throughout the week and playing at a football game on Friday till 10:00 p.m. The band will be traveling by bus to Haysfield where the band will conduct an early morning rehersal for an hour, then load back on to the buses for San Antonio. Although the band has a relativly early performance time (10:30 a.m.) the band will remain in San Antonio throughout the day, eagerly awaiting the results.
