Dave Mathews Band takes place of homecoming dance for some students

By Abby Drake Staff Writer While some Coppell high school students went to the homecoming dance last Saturday night others rocked out at the Super pages.com Center at the Dave Matthews Band Concert. The concert was a spectacular show and the lights, effects and atmosphere flowed perfectly to the beats of the band’s exciting songs. The set list from the concert was full of Dave Matthews Band’s most famous and catchy songs such as; “Last Stop”, “Shake Me Like a Monkey”, “Corn Bread”, and a crowd favorite “You and Me.” The show was great and all of the fans were very pleased as you could tell by their wide smiles and dancing bodies in the…

Mind Numbing Concert Event

What was it that made the Green Day concert the fist pumping, heart stopping event of the summer? It could it have been anything between the ring leader of the show Billie Joe Armstrong and  the deafening sound of music mixed with the shouts of the crowd and the explosion of fireworks. There was never a dull moment with Armstrong onstage to use his magic as an entertainer to rally up the crowd throughout the show. The concert took place August 26th at the Super pages center in Dallas. Impatience was well seen on the faces of the fans in the pit as they waited for the set crew to ready the stage for Green…

What’s in a band concert?

By Mike Pankonien Staff Writer I had looked forward to Thursday all week; not Friday. But when I learned that I actually had a band concert that night, all my plans got skewed. Instead of going home at four and catching up on sleep like I’d planned, I got to watch TV for a couple hours and kiss my home goodbye till later that night. What took me so long at the concert? Let me walk you through it: 6:00 p.m. – Arrive at band hall 6:10 p.m. – Check out concert uniform 6:15 p.m. – Find out kid threw up in warm up room; warm-up postponed. 6:30 p.m. – 4th band (my band) begins…

Julian Casablancas comes to House of Blues

Last night, Julian Casablancas (front man for the Strokes and now a solo artist) stopped by the House of Blues on his tour with opening act, Funeral Party. As far as opening acts go, Funeral Party was alright. They had some catchy tunes and good lyrics, but the lead singer seemed a little crazy to me. It took a while for their set to get started and even longer for Julian’s. Finally, after what was probably an hour, Julian came out to a roaring crowd, myself included. The first song he played was one that I’d actually never heard before, but it was still good. Most of the set list included songs from his album,…

CHS Band to host pre-UIL concert

By Ellen Cameron Staff Writer On Tuesday, March 30, the Coppell High School band will be hosting a concert, open to the general public. The concert, conducted in the school’s auditorium, begins at 7:00 p.m. and is expected to last approximately three hours. The four high school bands will be performing music such as Gallant Seventh, Carnival Overture and Symphony in One Movement. “It’s basically a dress rehearsal,” section leader and junior Violet Coker said. “There aren’t many times we get to sit down and play in class while we’re working on it, because we’re perfecting it, and usually we can’t just sit for up for up to 23 minutes playing.” The concert will be…

Muse make spring break the best ever

Over the spring break week, English rock band Muse along with American band Silversun Pickups stopped in Texas on their busy tour to perform in Fort Worth and Houston with a surprise show in Austin. With a sister who is an avid Muse fan, it wasn’t enough to only go to the Fort Worth show so when tickets went on sale a few months ago, we snagged some for the Houston show as well. Their first Texas stop as at the Fort Worth Convention Center on the 17th. Having general admission tickets meant we needed to get their early and after hearing that fans had been waiting outside the venue since midnight, my sister and I headed over their 5…

Taylor Swift makes much anticipated second Dallas appearance

Frances Ruiz Staff Writer Okay, while it may look like I’m having a seizure as I wildly jump up and down and excitedly scream the word ”TSwift” over and over again, I promise you that I’m not. The reason why I’m unable to control myself and look like some sort of crazy person escaped from the nearest hospital? Tonight’s the Taylor Swift Concert, and guess who scored tickets. That’s right. There’s no typing mistake. Nine hours from now, I will be jamming out to some of my favorite, and come on you have to admit, catchiest songs ever released. If you couldn’t already tell from the fall concert shirt I’m wearing when I went to the same show in September, I’m a big Taylor Swift fan. …
