CHS visual arts students compete in VASE

Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer To encourage student participation in the visual arts, Coppell High School competes at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event, or VASE, every year. This year’s regional competition will take place at Poteet High School in Mesquite ISD. The competition is organized into divisions based on how long participants have been in a studio art class, where students spend months preparing their artwork. At competition, students are interviewed by a judge, and the best entries go on to state VASE. There is only one more week for the competitors to make last minute touch ups on their artwork.

Wrestling team pins competition to the mat

Chase Porter Staff Writer Coming off a successful season a year ago, the Coppell wrestling team plans to pin this season’ competitors to the mat. In 2009, the Coppell High School boy’s varsity team won district and achieved second in the region. The team also sent six wrestlers to the state tournament last year and had an impressive run. Five of the six wrestlers placed in the tournament, making the Cowboys wrestling team a worthy opponent for anyone that faces them in this year’s upcoming season. “I think we’re going to do pretty good,” wrestling coach Robinson said. “Even though some good [wrestlers] guys graduated last year we have some more leaders coming up and…

AMC Grapevine renovation means competition for local dine-in dominator

Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor Look out, Studio Movie Grill: AMC Grapevine 30 is renovating 13 of its theaters and converting them into dine-in cinemas, which will likely compete with the long-time dine-in-theater dominator. Walking into AMC Grapevine right now, you only see a huge black wall where a hallway and bathrooms used to be. But pretty soon, it will open up, and in its place will be a bar and 13 newly renovated theaters. These theaters are different from normal because they are one of only four AMC theaters in the U.S. that will feature dining and eating areas. “The concept is pretty much the same as Studio Movie Grill, and we do hope to…

An event called Hunter Jumpers is a main component of the show. Each height division consists of a few over fences classes, and a few flat classes. The winner is the horse…

KCBY lives up to reputation at competition

By Ellen Cameron Staff Writer The day before the glitz and glamour of the Academy Awards, a mimicry of this Hollywood flair unfolds in the ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel, as winners of the film contest are announced by well-coiffed professionals. This scene, however, is set by teens, in the Student Television Network Convention in Anaheim, Calif. on March 3-6. The award ceremony closed a weekend of film contests, in which Coppell High School’s own KCBY competed—and, in promotional announcement, placed second out of hundreds. Though the 21 staff members had a chance to hang out and bond on the flight to Orange County, as they were for the most part the only passengers, everything…
