Coppell wins first place at BPA nationals in D.C.

Sophomore Sai Panguluri received first place honors at nationals, beating forty other students from across the nation at Human Resources Management. Mitu Bhattatiry advanced to the preliminary rounds in her category of Economic Research and received recognition as being top ten in the nation of BPA. 15-year long sponsor Jan McClintock was recognized at nationals for her long consecutive years of sponsoring BPA; Cindy Wolfe has been assisting and sponsoring the club for the past six years. Sidekick hauls in awards at Dallas Morning News Day

Thomas Hair Staff Writer Dozens of high schools across North Texas participated in the Dallas Morning News Day and Competition on Tuesday April 19. For the first time in its history, The Sidekick Newspaper was deemed the Best Overall Newspaper and its website, coppellstudentmedia.com, was awarded the title of Best Student Website. Legacy High School received Honorable Mention in Best Website while The Eagle Angle of Allen and The Hawk Eye of Hebron received Honorable Mention in Best Paper. The Sidekick also had an individual award winner, Divya Kumar, whose story won Best Editorial at the competition. Lariettes take fourth place for second weekend in a row

Ashley Attanucci Web Manager The past weekend, the Lariettes had the opportunity to show off their talents once again at the American Dance/Drill Team Competition of Texas, also known as the Texas Dance Classic. After weeks of personal preparation for solos and a year’s worth of morning practices in prep for football season, pep rallies and competitions like this, the Coppell Lariettes proceeded to dominate at Rowlett High School, competiing in pom, jazz, hip-hop and kick, coming into fourth place overall. The Lariettes also won fourth place overall in their Crowd Pleasers competition the previous weekend, hosted at Timber Creek High School Feb. 19th. Latin club students to compete in competition

Kelly Stewart Staff Writer Some members of the CHS Latin Club have the opportunity to participate in the Junior Classical League (JCL), an event that celebrates many aspects of Latin and Greek language and culture through dramatic plays and oratory contests. Eight students from the Latin Club are going to Houston this weekend for the North Central Texas JCL competition. It is being held on the 19th, and the CHS contestants are going to be having fun competing in the various contests offered there. They can also participate in the 58th annual National Junior Classical League competition, which is also open to anyone.

CHS visual arts students compete in VASE

Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer To encourage student participation in the visual arts, Coppell High School competes at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event, or VASE, every year. This year’s regional competition will take place at Poteet High School in Mesquite ISD. The competition is organized into divisions based on how long participants have been in a studio art class, where students spend months preparing their artwork. At competition, students are interviewed by a judge, and the best entries go on to state VASE. There is only one more week for the competitors to make last minute touch ups on their artwork.

BPA succeeds at regional competition

Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer On Saturday, January 22, the Business Professionals of America (BPA) competed in the regional competition at Dubiski High School in Grand Prairie. The competition consists of events ranging from interview skills to video production. It is a full-day event, with participants leaving their houses before 7a.m. and the award ceremony taking place at 5p.m. As a whole, Coppell High School was extremely successful, with all members placing in their individual and team events. The previous seasons have been stacked with top chefs from around the U.S. and they have been entertaining audiences and making them hungry.
