Superlatives voting right around the corner

The naming of Superlatives is one of the most quintessential traditions of the American high school experience. Every school year, as the final months begin to arrive, the entire student body of Coppell High School votes on who the most distinguished students were. Categories such as “Most Involved” and “Most Dedicated” reward Coppell’s best students for their loyalty to their school, while superlatives such as “Most Friendly” recognize those who do the little things every day to make CHS a better place. In previous years, there have been six categories of superlatives, with two winners, a male and a female, from each class. And now, this year’s edition of Superlatives is already upon us! Next…

Clark takes reins of CHS baseball team

IMG_8652

By Chase Porter Staff Writer For years the Coppell High School baseball team has been a force to be reckoned with, but unfortunately it has not advanced as far into the playoffs as expected. However, with a new head coach, the team feels determined to show the state what they have. Over the past years the team has been under the direction of the coach Don English, who is now coaching for Plano West. Last year was English’s final year with the Cowboys because of repetitive seasons with less than productive runs. “We had some many good players and a lot of good talent last year,” senior pitcher Holden Novak said. “They couldn’t produce when…

Van Winkle takes captain’s reins for a second year

Featured

By John Loop Staff Writer Being captain of a high school varsity team is one thing. But doing that twice is a whole other story. Add in the fact that junior third baseman and catcher Alicia Van Winkle was an underclassman when the coaches first told her she would be taking the reins of Cowgirl softball, and it all gets put in perspective. “It is not common to have a sophomore as a captain alongside two seniors,” Van Winkle said. “You wouldn’t expect an underclassman to be able to handle that much responsibility, but I took pride in that and worked hard through fall and spring, and that is what helped me regain the captain…

Sports fans give Coppell a bad reputation

Fans watch as their team compete against an opposing team at a soccer game. Photo by Brian Hwu.

By Jay Carroll Staff Writer Showing school spirit at sporting events is a great and fun way to stay entertained, but at a certain point the fans in the stand have to draw a line. Coppell is known for the academics – but especially the sports. Coppell sports are very big; we have an extensive line of state champion teams. Volleyball, soccer, hockey, baseball and lacrosse, have all won on the state level, and with this success comes the want and need for student and fan support. Now, this is only my second year at CHS, and I am unaware of how harsh the fans were before I got here. But it is rough. I…

JV won their first game last Friday against Alamo Heights by a score of 11-1, with Andrew Braden and Drew McAdams leading the team in scoring. Andrew Braden (4 goals) hopes to repeat this outstanding performance on Tuesday. Varsity also dominated Alamo Heights with a 16-1 victory. Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer Tears filled Coppell Middle School North teacher DeLana Attaway’s eyes in amazement as she watched the crowd flood the Coppell High School gym. These fans were not here to cheer on the Cowboys against a district rival. They were here to show their love for Attaway and support her as she fights for her life. “It is overwhelming how much the community has poured out to help our family,” Attaway’s husband Dick said. “Both schools having so much fun and all supporting each other and supporting the community for the benefit of my sweet wife.” On Monday Coppell citizens, students, parents, teachers and others gathered in the gym at CHS…
