High school students assist first graders in writing letters to Santa

By Sarah Police Staff Writer During second period a new type of students wandered through the halls of CHS. Only these students were about three feet tall and reminded me vaguely of a time when recess still existed. The first graders of Cottonwood Creek Elementary visited CHS classes so that high school students could assist them in writing letters to Santa. The seven year olds looked terrified as they stared up at the high school students. But nonetheless, they became adjusted and happily chattered away about their Christmas plans. The trip was successful; the first graders wrote letters to Santa and had smiles on their faces.

Songs for the Season

Staff Writer Dyer Whitt It wasn’t even December 1st when Michael Buble’s “Christmas” album was featured as #1 on the billboard top 200 albums. The rank has put the Grammy winning Canadian in the season’s spirit. “I feel like Christmas has come early for me…I’m really proud of this record so this is icing on the fruitcake. Thank you America and Happy Holidays,” Buble commented after his achievement. The album puts a new pop twist on popular oldies like, “Santa Baby,” “Feliz Navidad,” and “Jingle Bells.” The solid list of songs proves as a must have for not just Christmas music lovers, but also pop in general. Buble’s cover of Mariah Carrey’s “All I Want…

Holiday magic no longer present

By Kara Adkins Online Copy Editor When I was young I had high expectations when holidays rolled around. I knew that every year on Dec. 25 Santa Claus would eat my burnt cookies I set out for him. Every Halloween buckets of candy would be dumped into my living room from a pillow sack. And every Thanksgiving I waited anxiously for the blessing to be said so I could begin feasting. Yet time has caught up with me over the years. It seems that the holidays are not as jolly as they used to be. The Christmas lights no longer leave me in awe, the Thanksgiving meal is just a reminder to spend extra hours…

The season of giving begins

By Kara Adkins Online Copy Editor Christmas time is always the season for giving and at CHS this is no different. Coppell has set out to make a difference to grateful families around the area. Many classes are taking on the responsibility of adopting a family and making their Holidays extra jolly this year. The purpose of this is to raise money to help afford the families’ basic needs. Each student in these classes is asked to bring just a few dollars to help out. No matter how small of a contribution, the money adds up and makes a world of difference to these deserving families. With giving hearts, CHS students are carrying out the…

Holiday House brings unique essence to CHS

IMG_1385

Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer Once again, the smell of cinnamon engulfed the hallways of Coppell High School as eager shoppers piled on campus in search for good finds at the annual Holiday House on Nov. 13. For 16 years, CHS has hosted its annual Holiday House, serving as one of the biggest fundraisers not only for the campus, but also for Project Graduation; an organization on campus helping ensure a safe night after graduation for students. Not only does Holiday House help raise money for seniors, but serves to bring the community together in preparation for Thanksgiving and Christmas. “We’ve been coming to Holiday House for five years,” Coppell resident Debbie White said. “It’s…

‘Tis the season to be greedy

By Jordan Bickham Staff Writer The thought of Christmas conjures up images of large Christmas trees decked out in ornaments, presents all over the floor, and tons of food; but is that what Christmas is truly about? Christmas is a holiday based on religious beliefs, celebrating the birth of Christ. But with the invention of Santa Claus and presents appearing under the tree, the holiday has begun to lose its religious roots. Christmas was first introduced on Dec 25 by Roman pagans through the holiday of Saturnalia, a weeklong period of lawlessness that ended on Dec 25. In the 4th century AD, Christianity adopted the holiday in hopes of converting pagan worshippers to Christianity, but…

The approach of the holidays

By Sarah Police Staff Writer As the end of November approaches, one thing’s already on everyone’s minds: Christmas. I love Christmas time. I love piling blankets on my bed, the puff of my breath amongst the cool air and taking a break from school. But you know what I love the most? Christmas shopping. This year, three items are on my hot list. 1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. Need I say more? 2. Visa gift card. When in doubt, get a gift card. It doesn’t impersonalize a gift. It allows the person receiving it choose whatever they want. 3. Mylo Xyloto by Coldplay. Who doesn’t love Coldplay? I’m serious. It’s under…

A true holiday to be thankful for

Graphic by Haley Madigan.

By Jay Carroll Staff Writer It is the holiday season, which means Christmas is just around the corner. Oh wait, we still have Thanksgiving. It seems like every year we start to see ornaments, trees and other Christmas items already on display in stores when it is only the beginning of November. I saw a house with Christmas lights already up, and City Hall was putting up its lights when? I do not want to sound like Scrooge; I love the holidays, but it has gotten a little out of hand. People only truly pay attention and love holidays when they receive gifts, whether it is candy or presents. But what is wrong with a…
