Senior Night held at last home football game

By Caroline Carter Staff Writer As the football season comes to a close, the Coppell High School seniors find themselves looking ahead at their future. In order to honor the things they have done in the past four years, Senior Night will be held at the football game tonight. Seniors participating in cheerleading, Lariettes, football, band, and color guard will be recognized before the game begins. It will be a very bittersweet time for the students as many memories were made on Buddy Echols Field. The recognition of the seniors will occur before kick-off, roughly around 7:00.

By John Loop Staff Writer Many Coppell coaches take pride in teaching their interest in sports to the many student athletes at Coppell High School. These strong passions for their respective games are attributed to their careers in high school and college sports. One of these coaches is varsity football coach Kody Groves. “It is more than about football,” Groves said. “It is about teaching them the right way to live life. There are lots of life lessons in football.” Groves played cornerback football at Odessa Permian High School from 1994-96, the same position he has coached for the Coppell Cowboys the past three years. Permian also played for the state championship in 1995, a…

CHS Cheerleaders take home first

Abby Drake Staff Writer For the first time in Coppell High School history, the cheer team took home first place at the National Cheerleading Association competition. Starting in October, the CHS cheerleaders begin learning and perfecting a routine to perform at NCA.  Paid choreographers come in and create the routine and the cheerleaders exert the skills necessary. There is a very high level of talent in the cheer program this year that led to the victory over South Lake high school during last week’s competition. After months of practicing, their hard work paid off and the cheerleaders brought another championship to Coppell history.

Cheer uniforms: less is more

By Abby Drake Staff Writer A group of high school cheerleaders form the town of Bridgeport, Connecticut are protesting against their skimpy cheerleading uniforms, and are requesting to have uniforms that cover more of their body up. There are countless people who do not approve of cheerleading uniforms and the areas that they show. But what they do not understand is that the current cut and style of uniforms is necessary so that execution of skills goes smoothly. Cheerleading used to wear skirts down to their knees and thick knitted sweaters, which was fine for the skills they wanted to perform. Cheerleading has long since evolved and so must the uniforms. “The physical demands have…

Lariette, cheerleading teams make decisions for next year early Image and video hosting by TinyPic

By Gaby Moran Staff Writer Video by Keely Leonard Tryouts for any sport are difficult and stressful for everyone. High school tryouts decide what you will be spending most of your time doing and with whom. While many sports wait until the beginning of the school year, two specific groups make their decisions before summer begins. Lariette and cheerleading tryouts are two that take a week long to figure out who makes or breaks the team. Lariettes tryouts were on April 16 but all girls wanting to make the team must go through a weeklong workshop, from April 12 to15, to learn difficult jazz and kick routines. “While tryouts are hard, the requirements are needed…
