Salvation Army shares Christmas spirit

Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer With the holiday seasons just around the corner, Christmas shopping is once again taking over stores everywhere. And while it’s great to get presents for friends and family, spending just a little for strangers as well can go a long way. This is one of the many charities provided by the Salvation Army. Every year, there are many students at CHS who are involved in volunteering with the Salvation Army.

Free pancake day at IHOP

My classmates raved about another free pancake day at IHOP this week, but frequenters warned inquirers that the wait for some after-school breakfast would be long. Earlier this week -Tuesday, Feb. 23 it was, to be exact- wasn’t just any ordinary free pancake day, though. It was in celebration of National Pancake Day. Who knows where this holiday originated, but I am definitely in favor of taking off school to eat delicious, warm, fluffy, butter-topped and sweet syrup-drenched pancakes. Yum. IHOP recognizes the silly holiday with free food in return for asking for its customers to donate at the door. “Stacks for Good Acts” they call it. IHOP will give you one short stack of…

Cicis Pizza honors Big Brothers Big Sisters program

Pizza, like all food, is good, but tastes even better free. For the entire month of January, Cicis Pizza, a Coppell-based pizza chain, will be offering free buffets to participants in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program who come to Cicis to spend time with their younger “siblings”. This is in support of National Mentoring Month, and with the recognization that Cicis and the program have very similar core values. This isn’t the first time the chain has opened its doors to the cause, though; in 2009, CiCi’s Pizza donated more than $26,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters. For more information about the wonders of free pizza for these dedicated mentors or about Cici’s history of…
