Volleyball team participates in annual Dig for the Cure fundraider
Thomas Hair Staff Writer As you drove to school this morning, you probably noticed an army of pink ribbons around Coppell High School. Almost every tree on campus was decorated with a little pink ribbon, and in the parent loop, a large banner billowed in the wind. The group behind the fuchsia-colored adornments was the CHS volleyball team. It was all part of an effort the raise breast cancer awareness, and more specifically, the volleyball team’s annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser: Dig for the Cure. Luminaria, paper bags with candles inside commemorating cancer patients, lined the sidewalks of Wagon Wheel Park at the Coppell Relay for Life on the night of April 30, representing the battles that have been fought for cancer or are still in process. Loved ones were mourned, lives were celebrated and money was raised through this event. In efforts to help one of our nation’s greatest neighbors, thousands of Americans have come together to devise all sorts of charity events and fundraisers to help raise money in hopes to help restore one of the world’s most precious countries. Tomorrow, December 17, vloggers across the globe will help remind of us that power during the Project for Awesome (also known as p4a). The basic premise of the Project is for vloggers across the world to share their favorite charities and how they can change the world. Phillip’s Wish clothing drive brings students together
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Come holiday season, Coppell High School finds itself flooded with charities of all kinds, usually the same charities other high schools in the region are contributing to. This year, Lil Rascals club brought a new charity to the school, called Phillip’s Wish, a local organization founded by a 7-year-old boy based out of Keller that is dedicated to providing warmth to the homeless. Lil Rascals, a club started last year at the high school that revolves around helping local underprivileged children, decided to introduce Phillip’s wish to CHS as a clothing drive, collecting blankets, coats, scarves, gloves and the like. Drop off new or gently used blankets, coats, sweaters, gloves, scarfs, jackets and the like to Lil Rascal’s sponsor Coach and Physics teacher Clint Rushing’s room, B102, anytime throughout the week. So far, the foundation has collected over 40,000 blankets. Thomas Hair Staff Writer Courtney Christianson was an average Coppell woman; she had a 6-month-old baby, a family and a comfortable life. In 2007, she began to sense God wanted her to go on a mission trip to poverty-stricken Sudan. For a few years, Christianson disregarded this subtle calling and went on with her secure Coppell life. “To be completely honest, at the time I couldn’t have even told you where Sudan was, much less did I have any desire to go there. Salvation Army shares Christmas spirit

And while it’s great to get presents for friends and family, spending just a little for strangers as well can go a long way. This is one of the many charities provided by the Salvation Army. Every year, there are many students at CHS who are involved in volunteering with the Salvation Army.
New club PAWS to hold second meeting
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager This year many new clubs have been birthed, among them being a club called PAWS -Pets Are Worth Saving- created by junior Monse Gonzales. You may have seen the posters in the halls -this club is all about helping animals and pets. Members plan to hold fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to help support dogs in shelters and other animal organization across the Metroplex. PAWS will be holding its second meeting this Thursday, Nov. 4, in sponsor Mr. Scott’s room, B102 after school to discuss officer positions and upcoming events. This club accepts no dues but does accept donations that will go straight to other animal organizations.
