CGA annual creative writing competition
Tolu Salako Staff Writer CGA (Coppell Gifted Assosciation) is hosting their fourth annual creating writing competition. This opportunity is open for writers in grades 3-12 to CISD students. The deadline for writing pieces is on December 1, 2011 by noon. There are three writing entries that can be submitted including poetry, fiction, and non fiction. Each student may only submit one entry per category and entries will be based on artistic expression and technical merit. The finalists will have their writing pieces published in a book that will be available spring 2012. However the finalists will not be announced until February 6 2012. CHS parent finds niche during school board elections
Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor “Education is not about filling the pail, it’s about lighting the fire.” That is a mantra that Coppell school board candidate Tracy Fisher lives by. The mother of two kids, Aaron, a senior at CHS, and Sam, a sophomore, Tracy has dedicated the last 15 years of her life to community action. “I quit working when Aaron turned three and I started getting involved in the community,” Tracy said. “I didn’t know then how or where I would focus my attention, but I knew I would and I was drawn to education.” Before her son Aaron had even entered school, she was a representative for the Town Center Elementary improvement committee….
MOSAIC winners named
By Ashleigh Heaton Entertainment Editor On Feb. 14, the winners for the Coppell Gifted Association‘s MOSAIC Creative Writing Competiton were named. Categories included ficiton, non-ficiton, poetry, graphic novel and comic and was open to students from K-12 in CISD. Out of over 200 entries, a panel of ten judges from across the district (including Coppell High School Creative Writing teacher Matthew Bowden) selected the top entries to be published in a book for contestants to buy. The winners and honorable mentions will be honored at a book signing on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the lecture hall. First-place winners will read an excerpt from their winning piece and contestants will be offering their signature…
