Public Services Academy gives back to community

By Jordan Bickham Staff Writer The cafeterias this past Saturday were filled with swarm of expo guests exploring the various attractions at the expo with the Public Service Academy students standing out in their matching red shirts.  Not only did these crowds of people fill both cafeterias, but they were also inside the lecture hall, the Commons, the large gym and even outside with the petting zoo. EMT packets now available for pickup

Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer In cooperation with Brookhaven Community College and the Coppell Fire Department an Emergency Medical Technician course will be offered at Coppell High School, allowing students to become certified EMTs upon graduation. Not only will students have an opportunity to earn their certification, but they will also have access to state-of-the-art equipment including simulators and practice mannequins which hook up to computers to give feedback. Students will be exposed to a variety of training scenarios and have the chance to experiment with CareFlight helicopters, rotations at the Las Colinas Medical Center and ambulances, being on-call with the Coppell Fire Department. First HOSA meeting of the year

Corrina Taylor Staff Writer The first HOSA meeting of the year started off on Wednesday September 1st, the meetings are located in A110 (Mr. Pool the medical terminology teacher’s room) where they meet once a week on Wednesdays. The person in charge is Brenda Brinkman who is the teacher of Career and Tech in the Public Service academy. HOSA is a club for students interested in pursuing a medical career or students that want to learn more about medicine. Health Science Tech students participate in virtual simulation

by Divya Kumar News Editor As part of their final examination for the end of the year, Brenda Brinkman’s Health Science Tech students are participating in a virtual simulation this Friday, May 14. The students are given five minutes to treat a series of people in situations that require medical assistance. Each of the “injured” people are played by Coppell High School drama students, enlisted to help with the simulation. The extent of their fatalities range from being unconcious, to doused in blood, or to having a heart attack. The students must be able to diagnose how to act in each situation and what tools to use based off of what they have learned throughout…
