Jasso awards October teacher of the month

By Jordan Thompson Staff Writer Today Mr. Jasso, accompanied by the administration team carrying balloons, a gift basket and even a fluffy blanket surprised the 6th period peer tutors PE class. Jasso, holding a cowboy statue eagerly awarded Carol Jackson as the ‘teacher of the month!’ The look on her face was priceless-even more so when she began jumping up and down. Her coworkers dug up their acting skills and all fumbled up a reason for her to stay in the gym with some of her students even after it was time for them to go to their next class, in order to present the title for the entire next class. Needless to say, the lovable…

By Seth Slover Staff Writer Junior Chiaka Ogbogu embodies the definition of the word “determination.”A raw athlete with God-given ability, Ogbogu has refined her skills and developed her talent. Having played on the seventh grade C team and eighth grade B team at Middle School North, Ogbogu has escalated up the ladder of volleyball success, now a second-year varsity star. The strange thing is, so few people in the area have any idea of just how good Ogbogu is at volleyball.  If the secret was not already out, it is now. Although there has been little recognition of Ogbogu’s accomplishments, the attention from the volleyball world has been abundant. She has accumulated an extensive list…

Freshman’s science project earns national recognition

By Mary Whitfill Features Editor Although Rohan Panaparambil just started his freshman year at CHS, he is still being recognized for his 8th grade science fair project.  Panaparambil has been named as a semifinalist in the 2011 Broadcom Masters, a program of Society for Science and the Public. He is one of 300 semi-finalists who were chosen from over 6,000 prospects in the United States. The project that has won him this recognition is one of environmental responsibility and sustainability in waste management. Panaparambil’s project used cellulose to strengthen bioplastic, making him able to reuse a product that is more cost efficient than current waste-management techniques. Starting at Coppell Middle School West, Panaparambil was one of 12…

Sidekick predicts winners for 52nd Grammys

By Chris Nguyen Features Editor Let’s not get anything confused. The Grammys are by and large the worst awards show of the four, otherwise known as the EGOT (Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys) by “30 Rock” fans. They are long, drawn-out and unlike the Oscars or even Emmys, do not try to even have street cred, going for the big industry singers and bands, like Beyonce. However, I love awards show and the totally awesome Lady Gaga is a confirmed guest so count me in. Here are my predictions for this year’s ceremony. Record of the Year “Halo” Beyonce “I Gotta Feeling” The Black Eyed Peas “Use Somebody” Kings of Leon “Poker Face” Lady Gaga “You…
