By Dyer Whitt Staff Writer The original Metroflex Gym in Arlington is home to more than 100 professional and awarding-winning body builders; the gym is also the training facility of choice for Coppell High School junior Andrew Chalk. Chalk is a typical CHS student with the intriguing goal of becoming the best power lifter for his age and weight. At his first competition back in August, Chalk proved his worth in the sport as he walked off the stage with the first place medal; a confidence boost that is still fueling his urge to succeed. The route to success however is not as smooth as it sounds. Training for power lifting consists of countless hours…

“Yeah, I like Texas; ain’t it fine here”

By Ben Cowlishaw Online Copy Editor Over the past six months, I’ve watched 26 live dot races (or the occasional “Legends” race), I know Pat Green’s “I Like Texas” by heart, and have learned to appreciate the foul stench of garlic fries. There has been no greater influence on the last six months of my life than the Rangers. The Rangers have taken priority over my job, school, and (I’ll admit) my family. I feel extremely lucky to have had tickets to every home postseason Ranger game; few ever have a chance in their life to experience something as incredible as that. Last night, as I witnessed the Rangers’ 4-2 win over the Cardinals, putting…

Texas Giant to reopen at Six Flags Over Texas

Addy Buigas-Lopez Staff Writer The Texas Giant used to be one of the few completely wooden rollercoasters at Six Flags Over Texas. While one of the classics, the Giant lost its fans when the rickety track had riders leaving with whooplash and aching backs. Taking this into consideration, Six Flags put the rollercoaster under major remodelling. Along with a steel frame atop wooden supports, the heighest part of the rollercoaster now has an added ten feet and the rollercoaster now holds the record for the steepest angle of a drop for a wooden rollercoaster at 79 degrees. After $10 million of renovations, the Texas Giant is to host its grand reopening April 22 at the…

Texas Rangers: 2010 AL West Champions

By Thomas Hair Staff Writer Texas Rangers fans all over the world are rejoicing this weekend, and for good cause. For the first time since 1999 the Rangers have won the AL West and clinched a playoff spot. A monumental 4-3 victory over Oakland on Saturday sealed the deal for the team. With only 8 games left in the season, this win over Oakland put them 9 games ahead in the division. Therefore, the Rangers have clinched the division and in doing so, secured their first playoff berth in 11 years. The game was a tight one, but a solo home run from Jorge Cantu in the 8th inning put the Rangers up 4-3. Largely…

Heartbreak in Birdville

by Blake Seitz Sports Editor In what can only be described as a bitter defeat, Coppell lost to the Arlington Colts on a last second field goal, ending the Cowboy’s historic playoff run. The final score was 31-29. The first half of play was dominated by the Colts. After the Cowboy’s first drive collapsed, Arlington’s offense, led by senior quarterback Matt Joeckel, drove the length of the field to the Coppell one-yard line. After three consecutive stops on the goal line, Joeckel showed his prodigious ability (he has signed with Texas A&M) by lobbing a ball over the middle of a collapsing line for an Arlington score. Coppell’s second drive was just as impotent as…
