The last first six weeks

By Chase Porter Staff writer For us seniors here at CHS are final first six weeks is coming to a close but is senior year all that we have expected? From my point of view its been mostly what I have anticipated but I feel like I cant kick into senior- ides mode just yet. The past week and this current week teachers have flooded me with assignments but I think they are just trying to keep me focused until my mind lingers off to day dreams of college. Something I wasn’t expecting about my senior year is how fast it has gone by already. Plenty of people have warned me that this year would…

Seniors get a lesson on applying to college

By Chase Porter Staff Writer With school already in its second week seniors are not only trying to focus on school work but also applying to colleges. Luckily for us in the senior class, we have counselors that are happy to show us the proper way for applying and what we will need. Today, August 30, the seniors were pulled out of their english classes and given a crash course on how to start the application process. If you weren’t paying attention, seniors, here’s a quick summary. First, you’ll need to set up a Naviance account (which should have been done last year) and then add the colleges that you are applying to on your…

SPUR applications due tomorrow

Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer Did you not like SPUR classes this year? If you feel like you have the potential to improve SPUR for next year, the last chance to turn in applications for the SPUR Leadership Committee is tomorrow, April 25. The application is simple; first, students have to answer questions about their qualifications and what they could bring to SPUR. Then they have to agree to a set of simple guidelines and list two staff members who could provide recommendations.

More CHS students head north for college

Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor Location, location, location. It’s not just a real estate slogan. It’s also one of the most important considerations for seniors when choosing a college to attend. As more and more acceptance letters roll in, more college gear appears at school. Many of the deadlines have come and gone, but the college acceptance is not completely over yet. There are still several months before the final decisions will be made. Few know the intricacies of the college decision-making process as well as counselor Mindy McMinn. “I see most of the actual decisions made later in the spring because a lot of time students have wait to see what happens with financial aid…

Standing out during admissions process

Mary Whitfill Staff Writer I recently begun looking at college applications, filling out internship information forms, ect and I realized that I am pathetically average. I get low A’s or high B’s in most of my classes, I am a member of two clubs, I am in one student sponsored  extracurricular activity, I played a sport but didn’t continue for the entirety of my high school career, and I volunteer in the community once every few months. Huh. The thought that I am indeed ‘average’ hit me like a ton of bricks. Those who know me consider me the farthest thing from average, but on paper I am completely boring. I can’t tell an admissions…

College Application Stress

For CHS Seniors, crunch time has arrived. Students who are planning on attending Universities next fall have started to begin the arduous process of college applications, which are not only stressful but time consuming.   Most colleges will accept applications up until a certain point sometime in the spring, typically around January but a majority of seniors have decided to get on the ball and apply for early application to the colleges of their choice. One of the hardest parts about college applications is not the application itself, but the application system, which requires several different factors. For example, Harding University, a private Christian college in Searcy, Ark. requires a completed Application Form, a $35…
