“Imagine NO Malaria” benefit concert to feature local talent
Ashleigh Heaton Editor-in-Chief The First United Methodist Churches of Coppell and Vista Ridge are joining forces this Friday, April 29 to host the “Imagine NO Malaria” outdoor benefit concert. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and will be held on the plaza behind Coppell City Hall. The opening performance will be local Coppell band Amber Open Skies, followed by The Connections Band, who will be accompanied by the Coppell Horns and playing tributes to Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel. Anyone in the community is invited to come and bring a picnic supper. The event is free, but donations will be collected throughout the evening. The band members, Chris Teel, Daniel Moomau, Ryan Williams and Tyler Murray, have been together for four years. During that time they have played many shows in different venues, but none as exciting as the House of Blues. One of these such sounds is that of Coppell’s student bands, Amber Open Skies and The Brighter, who will be hosting an end-of-year concert and CD release party on June 3. On top of the concert, Amber Open Skies will be releasing their debut album Songs for Sleeping, and The Brighter will be releasing their album Wo Won’t Let Go. For Coppell band Amber Open Skies, however, stardom is waiting in California – and just might be in its grasp. Amber Open Skies, formerly The Afterparty, placed as one of the top 50 high school bands in the nation in the SchoolJam USA 2009 Battle of the Bands contest. As a semi-finalist, the band can advance to finals if it is voted as one of the top two bands in the southwestern region on the contest website.
