Silver Spur applications now available
By Sarah Police Staff Writer At Coppell High School, there are several things one can get involved in to show school pride and recognition. Because of this it is common throughout the hallways of CHS to see a medley of ‘I Rock CHS’ shirts and eager students juniors are always talking about red jacket applications towards the end of the year. It is a distinguished honor to wear one of the shirts or to represent the school as a red jacket during activities such the Health Expo and Senior Parent Night. While red jackets and I Rock CHS shirts physically display school pride, the Silver Spurs are commonly known for their contagious school spirit. At…
College roommate search for guys gets weird, real weird
By Chris Reagan Staff Writer For seniors the year is winding down and the preparations for college have begun. On the list for many to complete is finding the roommate they will spend the next year with. It’s difficult for students, like me, that know no one at their university of choice and are forced to have a randomly assigned roommate. For girls this is easy because somehow many of them instantly become best friends and it makes me jealous. For guys, the process takes a little more effort and is a lot more awkward. The only way I can think of describing how the process works for many guys is to…
Drawing near to the end of the year
By Tanner McCord Staff Writer You know the end of the year is approaching when you have two separate projects going on in two separate classes. Teachers are beginning the assignment cramming and students are, well, probably not starting their final exam study cramming because it’s not yet the day before. With AP tests still in full swing and our final issue of The Sidekick near completion, the light at the end of the tunnel is clearly visible. As college students arrive home for the summer, high school students are eager to do the same. Personally, I cannot wait to say goodbye to junior year and begin the graduation process; summer 2012 is looking good. Good luck everyone,…
Seniors embark on end of the year camping trip
By Dyer Whitt Staff Writer Tomorrow morning, the students of Ms. Binder’s Earth, Space and Science class will begin their journey to the Enchanted Rock camp ground. The trip was offered to all the seniors in the ESS class as an end of the year celebration. Students will enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, bird watching and numerous other outdoor activities. Last year the trip lived up to the hype of being an exciting getaway from home; this year looks to be no different. Enchanted Rock is located in Fredericksburg, Texas and is said to be over one billion years old. The actual rock is a mass hunk of granite and is great for climbing, hiking and…
End of school proves busier than anticipated
Madison Ford Entertainment Editor From the moment you enter high school, the term becomes a part of your teenage vernacular: senioritis. Some claim to have an early-onset form of the disease, while others are just now feeling its effects. However, what is rarely mentioned when discussing senioritis is that you do not get bed rest. As I progressed through high school, I envisioned my second semester of senior year with an envious longing. I thought of the blow off days, and how grades “no longer mattered” and it all seemed so glamorous. Unfortunately, the reality of this time period is not exactly how I envisioned. Not to say that I have not been enjoying it,…
Get graduation gifts for less green
By Michelle Pitcher Editor-in-Chief Disclaimer: the following post contains mention of glitter and puffy paint. Boys proceed with caution. It has come to my attention over the past few years that there are two times a year in which my wallet gets very light very quickly. One of these is the season of graduation parties, and it is upon us again. Being frugal by nature, I have come up with a few ideas for grad gifts that won’t have you eating rice and beans for the next three months. I know we’re all part of the Pinterest-inspired DIY craze, but oftentimes those crafts require more skill and time than we possess. However, there are several…
Coppell incorporates salad bars into cafeterias next year
By Jordan Thompson Staff Writer The United Fresh Produce Association Foundation, a founding partner supporting the national Let’s Move! initiative to end childhood obesity has granted CISD with four salad bars which will be piloted in four elementary school cafeterias starting in the fall. If they are successful, then more will be purchased for the remaining elementary campuses. Coppell, along with Frisco, Hurst Euless Bedford, Lancaster and Richardson Independent School Districts are some of the first schools to take on this healthy challenge. Over the last several years, United Fresh has been a driving force behind the nationwide adoption of school fruit and vegetable salad bars as a proven strategy for significantly increasing children’s produce…

This group brings spirit, pride and enthusiasm to the stadium – and it’s not even the football team. The Coppell High School Silver Spurs loyally attend all season games and bring entertainment and spirit by the hat-full. All sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to be a part of this rowdy group, as tryouts for the 2012 football season will occur on Wednesday May 16. Any boys that will be able to attend all football games and are spirited and outgoing are encouraged to stop by Mr. Bagley’s office by May 14 to…

Students to Round-Up school year next Friday
Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer With the end of the school year quickly approaching us it’s time to reflect on the things that Coppell High School has accomplished together as one. The Round-Up Yearbook serves to capture memorable photographs that will help students always remember high school. Next Friday, the 51st volume of the Round-Up Yearbook will be distributed to students who pre-ordered their yearbooks.
