Grading the Dallas Cowboys 2012 Draft Class
By John Loop Staff Writer Jerry Jones surprised every one last Thursday when the Cowboys and the St. Louis Rams swapped picks to allow Jones and company to take LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne at pick number six. Along with their next two days of picks, here is a recap of all of Dallas’ draftees. First Round (Sixth overall) – LSU CB Morris Claiborne – A big jump to sixth overall helped the Cowboys secure the Tigers cornerback. According to owner Jones, Claiborne was the organization’s second rated prospect behind Andrew Luck, who went first to the Colts. What is even more amazing is the fact that Claiborne never made a single appearance at Valley Ranch, and…
Cowboys dominate over Chargers in 7-0 win
Sammy Robben Sports Editor Tonight, the Coppell Cowboys baseball team swept the Keller Central Chargers in their final district game. The Cowboys, led by the pitching of junior Jake Elliot, defeated the Chargers 7-0. Throughout the first two and a half innings of the game the Cowboys and the Chargers went back and forth to try to score a run but never produced. The Cowboys were three up, three down in the first inning and only had four batters in the second inning. Despite this, the Cowboys came back in the bottom of the third to score three runs. Junior Matt Delaney began the bottom of the third with a double to right field. Junior…
2012 NHL Playoffs, Conference Semifinals Picks
By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer As the first round of these NHL playoffs came to a close, my picks hit a striking seven for eight. I can proudly say I made an attempt to watch every game, and I enjoyed every second of it. While I was hoping for a sweep of both the Penguins due to my friend Carlos Scott, and the Canucks because they are from Canada, both met their ultimate demise, and will enjoy some golf in the months to come. We look ahead to a very intriguing second round now, featuring close match ups, and some chances for some great upsets. Let’s get crakin’. Western Conference #2 St. Louis Blues vs….
Path to the Draft: Previous Predictions
By John Loop Staff Writer Pick No. 16 – The New York Jets TEAM NEEDS: Wide Receiver, Defensive Lineman, Linebacker, Safety Rex Ryan will probably hold his usual press conference and say the exact same words he has said the last couple of years, something along the lines of “Super Bowl or Bust!” But Rex…you can’t win a Super Bowl with a now defunct quarterback and a non-existent receiving corps. That’s why the Jets’ should take South Carolina deep threat Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery, who caught 49 passes for 762 yards and eight touchdowns, proved himself as an elite college receiver. The junior was mulling the NFL jump as late as January before declaring his intentions…

This year’s draft will certainly be interesting with all of the standout talents and prospects available. The first round of the draft…
Wildcats end Coppell bid for fourth straight lacrosse title
By John Loop Staff Writer It just wasn’t enough. Coppell’s furious rally to get to within two goals in the last two minutes went for naught, as Plano West upset the Cowboys in their first round matchup, 6-4. Senior midfielder Chase Porter started the scoring off with a bang, leading to an early 1-0 lead. Not long after, sophomore Dillon Braun’s pretty pass to junior Henry Busch extended the lead to two. But the Wildcats would counter with six unanswered goals to complicate the game. Within the last two minutes, senior midfielder Tommy McClenahan scored the second of two goals to pull the Cowboys within two. With 1:26 left in the fourth quarter, senior Porter…

Blackwell scores fifth home run at Cowgirls stadium
By Sammy Robben Sports Editor Last Friday, during the Coppell Cowgirls softball game against the Keller Central Lady Chargers Junior Lora Blackwell became one of few to score a home run at the Cowgirls stadium. With her second at bat Blackell hit a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. With that home run Lora became only the 5th Cowgirl to hit a home run at Cowgirl Stadium since it opened in 2002. Lora also became the only junior Cowgirl to hit a home run at the stadium; the other four players were Nicole Denes, Brittany Chalk, Rachel Foreshaw and Kelsey Latta, and they were all seniors. “I walked up to the batters…
Varsity baseball hopes to continue winning streak on Senior Night
By Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor What began as a mediocre and slightly disappointing 2012 season for the varsity baseball team has remarkably seen the tides turn in recent weeks. After a shaky 8-9 start, the Cowboys have won nine of their last 11 games to brinf their overall record to 17-11. With only two games remaining, the Cowboys have stormed up the charts 3rd place in the district standings and have outscored their previous four opponents by wide margins, a total of 36-5. This Friday’s game against Keller Central is a rematch against the last team to defeat the Cowboys (the Indians won 2-1 on April 10) and a critical District 7-5A matchup, but it…
