Currently in last place with a 5-12-1 record, the Cowboys have a chance to move up a couple spots with wins in each of their last 5 games. Heading into the playoffs, a better seed would offer the team a better chance at going far into the playoffs with hopes of capturing their second state title. Come out and support your Cowboys…

Girls basketball falls short in final game

By Sammy Robben Sports Editor On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Cowgirls played a very close game with the Keller Central Lady Chargers in their final game of the season. The Cowgirls lost by a devastating one point, 30-29. The Cowgirls were slow to start in the game, but ended the half tied 16-16 with the Lady Chargers. During the second half the Cowgirls and the Lady Chargers went back and forth with points. There was no clear leader as the points scored by both teams were almost identical. The Cowgirls were down 26-25 with three minutes left in the game. Two free throws resulting from a foul put the Lady Chargers ahead 28-25 and a…

Coppell keeps up streak with 4-1 rout of Keller Fossil Ridge

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboys continued their undefeated season, improving their record to 3-0 in district and 14-0 overall. Coppell appeared to start off strong with a goal within the first few minutes of play but it was disallowed due to an offside call. Junior Zunil Narsing made up for this assisting senior Laurent Maksoud for a goal shortly after. Sophomore Chris Madden also scored off a left footed rip a few minutes later. The boys dominance was present all game as anytime the Fossil Ridge was able to get possession the Cowboy defenders quickly sent it back up the forwards. The second half started out much like the first with a goal…

Cowboys lose heartbreaker to Central, 43-41

By John Loop Staff Writer Although it was Senior Night, the Cowboys effort was not enough to pull of a win, losing to Keller Central, 43-41. Senior point guard Warren Oishi paced the Cowboys with 15 points, Austin Mankin added 9 points on three three-pointers in the first half, but the Cowboys were held to 14 points over the last two quarters. After starting the game on a 10-8 run, the Cowboys were held to just 3 more points, as Keller answered with a 6-3 run of their own. The Cowboy rebounding the entire game was not good, resulting in a slim one-point halftime lead, at 27-26. Right out of the gate, senior post Jett…

Cowboy Baseball has first scrimmage at Prosper with 22-8 blowout

By Ben Cowlishaw Online Copy Editor Coppell Cowboys Baseball had their first scrimmage last night against the Prosper High School Eagles. The Cowboys lit up the Eagles, scoring 22 runs and allowing only eight over the more than four-hour scrimmage. With all players putting on a showcase of their abilities, the batting looked steady and strong throughout. They launched several long balls over Prosper’s own “Green Monster” in left field, including a grand slam courtesy Tyler Jacquess in the 13th inning. As most of the players were given at bats in the scrimmage, it was evident there is sufficient power present in the entire team’s lineup. With multiple hits in nearly every inning, the Cowboys…

Super bowl commercials: deal or dud?

By Lauren VerDuin Staff Writer This year’s Super Bowl between the Giants and Patriots was a nail biter down to the last few seconds, but there is is debate about whether the commercials for this year’s game had that same effect. From  dancing M&Ms to exercising dogs and John Stamos, the commercials continued to impress. One thing that was definitely evident this time around was movie trailers. While some seemed to enjoy this new add-in, others found it to be distracting and complained that it took away from the number of commercials T.V. producers decided to air. Although this may have been true, I personally think it was the perfect opportunity for movie producers to…

Hamilton has unfortunate relapse

By Tanner McCord Staff Writer Last night on Twitter, I had the misfortune of reading that Texas Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton had an alcohol relapse. Reports say that Monday night (Jan. 30), Hamilton was spotted at a local bar drinking. The well known ball player’s last relapse with alcohol occured in 2009 when he was drunk in public and had some very incriminating photos surface. No pictures have been revealed and few details are known about the incident last week. Bob Sturm, host of “The Ticket” radio show, tweeted: “Josh Hamilton press conference will alter things at 1, but of course, that is pretty important.” Hopefully the press conference will provide some clarity to the…
