This exciting festival has drawn thousands of people all around the Dallas area to celebrate the shenanigans of the Renaissance era. Choir certainly gets a kick out of it. Last years CHS Varsity Choir Bel Canto is hosting their reunion at the fair, eager for the sloppy turkey legs, elephant rides, costumes, knick-knacks and the whimsical spirit of the people. Unofficial election results show Hunt as new Coppell mayor
By Mary Whitfill Features Editor Coppell’s city council will be plagued with new faces, as early election results show Gary Roden and Karen Hunt taking the lead in their respective elections and a runoff election scheduled for two Place 3 hopefuls. Results show mayoral hopeful Karen Hunt with 1,587 votes against opponent Marsha Tunnell with 1,310 votes. Council Place 4 looks to be claimed by Gary Roden with 1,763 votes against Davin Bernstein with 865 votes. Three places will be claimed by unopposed incumbents with Bob Mahalik in Place 2 with 2,138 votes, Marvin Franklin in Place 6 with 2,109 votes and Aaron Duncan in Place 7 with 2,126 votes. Theater department puts on one final show
By Christina Burke Staff Writer The CHS theater department is putting on one final show before their curtains close for the 2011-2012 school year. ‘Dividing the Estate’, is a dramatic performance ,written by Horton Foote and directed by Bill Ballard. It is set in 1987 Texan times, when a family was hit hard by the drop in oil prices. The story line unfolds as the southern-rooted extended family gathers together to endure their hardships during this time period. ‘Dividing the Estate’ opened tonight at 7:30 pm, but if you did not catch it, there are three more showings to attend. Coppell to begin water conservation
By Jay Carroll Staff Writer The City of Coppell has received an abundance of rain over the past few months, enough, in fact, to cause an overflow in local lakes. However, the City of Coppell will reinstate a Stage 1 water restriction for residents. Stage 1, will be annually reinstated from May 15 to Sep. 15. This is in compliance to the City of Dallas’ Drought Contingency Plan; the goal of this plan is to reach a 5% reduction in water use, due to the drought conditions is some local areas. This restriction prohibits residents from watering their lawns from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (residents however, can still hand water their plants and lawns).
Rolling Oaks to honor mothers this weekend
By Julianne Cauley News Editor Mother’s Day has always been a special day set aside to recognize the efforts, love and support of mothers worldwide. This weekend, May 13, the city of Coppell is offering a new and unique opportunity to do just that. The Rolling Oaks Memorial Center Cemetery and Funeral Home is to honor mothers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens may come and receive roses that they may honor mothers with on this special day. College Ambassador Program applications due Friday
By Tolu Salako Staff Writer The guidance department is looking for sophomores to represent CHS as College Ambassadors next year to serve as hosts to visiting colleges. Each junior College Ambassador will have to work only five to six times during the year and will also help with College Night this fall. Junior ambassadors will meet the college representatives and have them sign in at the horseshoe and get settled in in the commons or in the library classroom for students who are interested in attending that certain college. Applications are available in student services and are due this Friday!
Guerry to lead cyber-crime seminar at CMSW

This Thursday, May 10th, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, the seminar, Public and Permanent: How You Can Prevent Digital Dilemmas, is coming to Coppell Middle School West’s auditorium to bring a greater awareness to the negative and irresponsible digital trends and behaviors that are quickly becoming popular. City gears up for May 12 voting

Threatening a large change in city government, fivecity council seats, including the mayoral position, are up for grabs. Though four council seats (2,4,6 and 7) are up for reelection, two council members will keep their seat as they are running unopposed. Students to Round-Up school year next Friday

The Round-Up Yearbook serves to capture memorable photographs that will help students always remember high school. Next Friday, the 51st volume of the Round-Up Yearbook will be distributed to students who pre-ordered their yearbooks. Every year students must bring their school IDs to pickup their yearbook; this year will be no different. Waving goodbye to Dual Credit

Students get to sleep in or leave the high school early, get college credits out of the way, and work in a college environment. But on top of all of that they also are done with college class’s weeks before actual graduation. For students enrolled in Dual Credit, this week will mark their last days of college courses through Coppell high school.
