Tonight at the American Airline Center here in Dallas the Rock and Worship Road show was held for the fourth year in a row. For just ten dollars, you could enjoy the likes of Christian rapper LaCrae and big names like Tenth Avenue North and Mercy Me.

Old Town Coppell’s makeover may be completed sooner than originally thought. The construction project is ahead of schedule.

The project is supposed to add new restaurants to the area with the intent of drawing in people from Coppell and other surrounding cities. The things that will be built this year include patio homes, which will bring new residents to Coppell as well.

There are going to be multiple attractions for everyone, like a pavilion for hosting events and an interactive water feature for children.

While the project is currently ahead of schedule, it will still take about ten years for the entire project to be completely finished.

Today one of the most anticipated movies was released: The Vow. As if that didn’t get all the teenage girls hyped up Breaking Dawn Part 1 was released on DVD today as well.

The Vow starts two of the biggest stars of today: Channing Tatum (Step Up, She’s the Man, G.I. Joe, Dear John) and Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, The Notebook). Tatum (Leo)  and McAdams (Paige) star as a young newlywed couple. The couple gets in a car accident that leaves Paige with memory loss. She forgets all about their marriage and her husband. Leo dedicates himself to winning Paige back and helping her remember and get back everything they had. The Vow is based on the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. It is rated PG-13.

For all the music lovers out there, this weekend holds some unique opportunities.

Tonight, Feb. 10, the Rock and Worship Road Show is back in Dallas. Held at the American Airlines center, this is a Christian concert and will be featuring MercyMe, Tenth Avenue North, Lecrae, Diciple, Hawk Nelson, Sidewalk Prophets and The Rend Collective Experience. Other activities include a message from Bart Millard (lead singer of MercyMe), a tour merchandise table and even a chance to win door prizes. This concert kicks off at 7:30 PM and tickets cost $10 at the door. For more information, click here.

Tomorrow, Feb. 11, country singer Luke Bryan will be preforming at Billy Bob’s Texas in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Although this show is unfortunately sold out, it starts at 10:30 PM and will be a really good time where he will be preforming songs from his recent album including “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” and “Don’t Want This Night To End”.

With the current sophomore class rank and grade point average revealed, students are anxious to begin applying to the National Honor Society at Coppell High School. The applications are due on Friday March 9 giving students ample amount of time to create their resumes and gather recommendations.

If students have a GPA of 4.80 or higher, they have the opportunity to apply for membership in the organization. The application consists of three parts, which include a cover letter written by the student, a resume and two letters of recommendation. Kevin Casey, NHS sponsor, notes in the application that it is very important to follow all directions precisely and also turn in the application on time because no late applications will be accepted.

Students will know if they have been accepted into NHS on March 23. Questions regarding membership or the application can be addressed to Mr. Casey in room B214.

The Coppell Cowboys varsity hockey team is looking to turn the year around and make a run at the playoffs down the stretch of this season.

With only 5 games left this season, the Cowboys look to change their luck, starting tonight in their game against Plano West. Currently in last place with a 5-12-1 record, the Cowboys have a chance to move up a couple spots with wins in each of their last 5 games. Heading into the playoffs, a better seed would offer the team a better chance at going far into the playoffs with hopes of capturing their second state title. Come out and support your Cowboys at 8:45 tonight at the Dr Pepper Star Center in McKinney!

Art students from CHS will be competing at Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) against other students in the metroplex ton Saturday, Feb. 11.

Students will discuss their art with a juror and explain the concepts. The juror will then rate the art and determine if it will earn a medal. Students who medal will also receive a DAP credit.

In the past, Coppell has competed against students from everywhere else in the district. This year, however, Coppell will be competing with the top ten schools in the area, making the competition tougher.

VASE will be held at South Grand Prairie High School and will be going on throughout the day. If you see any students who are competing on Saturday, be sure to wish them luck.

Next week on Friday, Feb. 17, Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) will be hosting their annual, Heritage Night. At this event many countries will be displayed such as India, Pakistan, Nigeria, etc along with their cultural  food and drinks. In addition, there will be some awesome Bollywood and African dance performances.

During this event, the JWAC  club shirts will be sold for $10 for short sleeves and $15 for long sleeves. Also at the event, the winners for the best tri-board display for their country will be announced.

Do not miss this annual event that is very popular amongst CHS Students.

I have never considered myself to be a feminist, but at the same time, I have never shied away from defending my rights. This is why I feel the topic of sexism is always tricky. On one hand, I completely understand where some women are coming from in their unrest. It is true that in America, women get paid less on average than men do. It is also true that woman are still, to some extent, viewed as weaker than men, or incapable of performing the same tasks as men, whether this is on the playground or in the workforce.

However, I also feel that as woman, we cannot let such facts and figures blind us from the opportunities that are given to us. I count myself extremely lucky to be living in the generation I am. From the time I was young, I was taught time after time, both at home and in school, that men and women are equal. I have never felt slighted or held back by my gender. In fact, it is somewhat empowering to be a woman in today’s society because there are so many leaders and organizations that urge women to meet their full potential.

I am not naive though. I have grown up in an affluent community that is, on the whole, quite accepting of all races, religions, and genders (of course there are exceptions to this, there always are). But there are undoubtedly communities within this nation, and certainly throughout the world, that are not so lucky, and are plagued with the burdens of racism, sexism, and prejudice. So the question is, where do we go next? Our country certainly does not promote such behavior, and yet it is still present through the actions of its citizens. We can pass numerous laws to combat it, dealing with equality, and demanding affirmative action, but when it comes down to it, we must rely on each other to make a change that will push us onward.

After reading an article from another young journalist on the subject, I felt inclined to bring up this topic. She brings a more feminist view on the subject, which provides another perspective on the issue of sexism.

I would like to end this blog by posing a question, or rather, a few questions, to readers. Do you, whether you are a man or a woman, still feel like sexism is a prevalent issue in the United States? How about the world? Have you been discriminated against, or held back in some way because of your gender? How do you think we should address the issue of sexism in our country, and the world?

Last night, the Coppell High School Varsity boys basketball team played Keller Central. The game came down to the final seconds, but the Cowboys came up short 41-43.
