Taco Naan brings unique flavor

Driving down Denton Tap Road, you might glance over and see a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant with “Taco Naan” written in giant letters. If you are like me, the first thing you will probably think is “who would ever buy a taco from a restaurant with that name, that location, in that run down old gas station?”

Taco Naan, a new addition to the extensive chain of restaurants in Coppell, is a restaurant that specializes in tacos of all kinds, ranging from regular beef tacos to their unique curry tacos which are sold every day from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The outward appearance of the restaurant itself is not very appealing. It has a certain old and run down feel to it, decorated with posters and advertisements trying to draw people in to try their delicious looking and inexpensive tacos.

Walking in at about 6:05 a.m., the smell was less than pleasant, mostly due to a strong aroma of curry. The interior was not very well decorated, but it seemed clean and a decent place to stop in for a quick meal.

I walked up to the counter to order, when the man working told me rather bluntly that he did not have any tacos to give me because the chef had not yet arrived. Seeing as I had to be at Coppell High School in the next 20 minutes, I did not have time to sit and wait. I decided to come back the next day at around the same time to give the tacos a try.

Once again, I arrived to discover the chef had not yet arrived and if I wanted a breakfast taco, I would have to wait. Again, I left, frustrated and without a taco.

Deciding to come back at a later time that same day, I arrived at Taco Naan at around 1 p.m. to find the place very busy. I observed people’s food trays to get an idea of what I wanted. As I approached the counter, I discovered that everything looked so good, even though I had no idea what was in them.

The menu was filled with different kinds of tacos that all sounded delicious. I decided to go with a personal favorite of mine, a beef taco, costing only $1.50. It did not take long before the number for my order was called and I approached the counter. It turns out that the taco I ordered was one of the smaller ones on the menu, but it looked good nonetheless.

I took a bite and was very surprised with how much I enjoyed it. It was hot and fresh and the flour tortilla had been toasted perfectly. The taco was served with lime and onion, which gave it a lot more flavor, making it that much more enjoyable. It was a great spin on the usual Tex-Mex taco that we all know and love.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone with an appetite from something different. The variety of tacos are unique and something different for the taste buds. Driving by, judging by the appearance, it does not look like a top restaurant on your lists of ones to try. However, the food will surprise you and your wallet certainly will not suffer.
