Students plan to show “soup”erior generosity in canned food drive

If you’re looking for a “souper” way to give back to the community, CHS will begin their annual canned food drive this week. The “Souper Bowl of Caring” fundraiser encourages students to bring in canned or other non-perishable food items to donate to local food shelters. What seems like a simple act of caring by a student, can put a meal on the table of a struggling family.

CHS Student Council, or StuCo, is spearheading this fundraiser. Members will be meeting sometime this week to discuss plans further. Each year, the school offers an incentive to encourage students to bring in cans. This year, the fourth period class that brings in the most canned food items will recieve off-campus lunch one day. The second place fourth-period will receive a pizza party, and the third place class will receive a cookie party.

Administators and StuCo hope that these incentives will motivate students to bring in canned food items. Souper Bowl of Caring is endorsed by several celebrities, such as Channing Tatum, and organizations, like the NFL. CHS is known for their competitive spirit and generosity, and events like the Souper Bowl are the perfect times to show it. Sometimes, local grocery stores like Tom Thumb, Kroger, and Market Street will offer promotions and coupons for cans in response to the canned food drive. A small step like this can make the success of this fundraiser soar. Resolve this year to help out a family in need. You never know what a can of soup or vegetables can do for a family struggling to make ends meet.
