Turkey drive gets students into the spirit of giving

By Jordan Bickham

Staff Writer

Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with giving and cherishing what you have. But if you do not have much, the North Texas Food Bank is willing to help.

The organization was established in 1982 by Liz Minyard, Kathryn Hall, Jo Curtis and Lorraine Griffin Kircher. Their goal was to address the issue of hunger in the North Texas area through donations, distributing food to various charitable organizations which feed the hungry. They do this through 13 Texas counties, and in their first year they distributed 400,000 pounds of food.

The food bank works hard all year to support the hungry, especially around the season of Thanksgiving which involves large, elaborate dinners.

You can help feed the hungry by bringing a frozen turkey to a CISD school on Friday for the annual Turkey Drive. Collected turkeys will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank. You can visit the organization’s website to find other ways you can help!
