Today’s tech

Let’s go back to the time when kids went outside to play for the love of the game. They would play for hours and hours without keeping score- just playing with each other and having fun.

This generation, children are helping Tiny Wings soar the sky and assisting Phineas and Ferb with their summer shenanigans. Technology has been on the rise in the past couple of years and some people are even saying that this is the “technology decade.” But is all of this action with Angry Birds good for you?

This advancement has led to many good things. Back in the 1980s and 90s computers took up full rooms to operate. Now we have computers as small as six inches. We have the ability to access the Internet on our phones and send satellites into space. The people of America love the phenomenon of technology.

Five years ago cell phones were not common thing. But now the technology has progressed so much that now you can watch movies on your phone. We have come to the point where people ignore each other during dinner because they have Facebook at their fingertips.

You are posting way too much. Not necessarily everyone wants to read your posts. Now, it is OK to post a status every once in awhile about something that actually means something. Rambling on and on about everything you do is not an essential thing. You are posting this on a public website and anyone can see this. If someone like your principal or college admissions officer asked to see your Facebook page, would you be proud of what was on it?

I am not saying social media is a bad thing. In personal experience, Facebook has been a lifesaver when I needed to contact a group member on a project. But dinner is the time in which you spend quality time with your family and actually converse (yes, you really have to talk to them) with the people around you.

The technological advancement is not necessarily a bad thing. I am not saying you have to delete your Facebook or your Tumblr accounts; I am saying technology has become a big part of people’s lives, and there is more to life than updating your status.

However, this modern technology is not all cons. If you have a smart phone then you can download apps that can help you with things like school. There are note cards apps that can help you study for a test. Plus there are also mass amounts of apps that provide entertainment and fun. It is also much easier for people to contact others who do not live close to them, as opposed to mailing them a letter.

Phones with the latest technology are even upgrading in their cameras. Don’t want to carry your chunky camera? No problem. Your camera in your phone can produce high quality pictures.

The development of this technology has pros and cons – just be sure that updating your status isn’t more important than talking to the people in front of you.
