iPod 4G review
By Mike Pankonien Staff Writer It finally came; after starting my new summer job a week before school started and saving up my hard earned cash, my brand new, 64 GB iPod Touch 4G had arrived. At first glance several things are noticeable about the new iPod. For this review I will be comparing it too my two year old 8 GB iPod Touch 2g running on very old 3.0 firmware (the 3G model was largely the same as the 2G, minus it’s enhanced hardware). First off, the screen is darker: when the 2G model is turned off or in lock mode, the screen turns a grey color and is visibly separate from the rest…
Mesquite’s homecoming disaster
If there is one day out of the year where dress code is not applied at Coppell High school it’s at the homecoming dance. Girls are often able to get in with no problem despite how closely their dresses resembles nothing. So I was a bit surprised to read that Mesquite high school decided to buckle down this year and turn down around 50 girls the opportunity to go into the dance based on their attire. I feel as if I must intrude and make a few points. Homecoming is basically a night for all of the students of a school to get together and dance way to close to one another. With this said,…
Schedule changes
It’s that time of year. As the weather cools down and academics at CHS kick into high gear, alarming thoughts run through the heads of many CHS students: “Whoa, this way tougher than I thought it’d be!” “This course is too overwhelming!” “I don’t know if I can handle this crazy hard class!” Yes, it’s once again the time for schedule changes. Just when the counselors were getting situated from the crazy beginning of the school year, students flood into their offices, begging to get out of an AP, Pre-AP, IB, or GT course. If you’re one of those students, pick up a Level Change Request form at student services or the freshman office as…
Crime shows hit it big this season
Paige Wilson Staff Writer As a new tv season begins we go back to old favorites like Glee and Modern Family but, this season crime and mystery seems to be the big theme in tv. New shows such as Chase, Hawaii 5-0, and CSI LA all being added to the long list of new tv shows. I have partaken in this mystery overload and some seem to have alot in common. Dallas seems to be the new New York having at least three of the new shows filmed in Dallas. To view the new shows look at a tv schedule click here.
New teachers have strong connections to CHS
Story by Emma Hair, Copy Editor Video by Jen Olsen and Susie Shahsavari, KCBY Coppell High School has some new faces this year, and it’s not just the freshmen. Family ties, CHS’s impeccable reputation, and a love for the Coppell community have drawn three new staff members to the CHS family. These teachers include Lindsey Chasteen (basketball, track and social studies), Brian Rohloff (social studies) and Albert Torres (assistant choir director). All three are happy to be teaching at CHS this year. Chasteen applied to work at CHS because of the strong family ties she has with the school, with her parents both coaching at schools in the district and having attended CHS herself. …
Coppell hits a high note with students advancing to Regional auditions
This past weekend, Coppell hosted the first round of the 2010-2001 All-State auditions. Not only did our school facilitate the event, but we just so happened to dominate it as well. Twenty-seven of our students advanced past District Auditions and will now proceed to Region on October 16th. These students had little time to celebrate their impressive accomplishment though, as the next round is in less than three weeks. With all their attention focused on the pieces used for the first audition, many singers have not had the chance to practice any other pieces until now. Because of this, many are struggling to learn and perfect the next four songs, one of which is in…
Mixing up a typical church night
Story by Addy Buigas-Lopez, Staff Writer Video by Taylor Crumpton, KCBY (coming soon) Garage style doors are thrown open, revealing an auditorium flooded with a sea of seats and a stage ready to host The Mix Band as hundreds of high school students pour into the Fellowship Church Apex, attempting to make their way to the front of the crowd. With the crowd cheering them on, The Mix Band takes center stage and readies themselves for this week’s night of music and worship. Fists pumping, hands clapping, bodies jumping, the group of teenagers sing along with the lyrics displayed on the big screen as members of the band, Daniel Goodenough, Kevin Bonnot, Isaac Esquibel, Bryson…
“Within” actress Mia Fords life
story by: Kara Adkins video by: Lauren Gurevitz If there is one thing students are good at its cramming last minute. But imagine being given a script you have to memorize while flying across the country to an audition where you must have the script down pat. Welcome to Mia Ford’s life. Mia Ford is an eighth grader at Coppell Middle School West and unlike most middle school students who play volleyball or babysit Mia chose a different hobby; acting. Ever since she was five she has been pursuing acting and travels to LA for two to three months throughout the school year. Mia has been in many shows and movies, including “Barney and Friends”,…
Local club gives hope to African children
Lauren Ussery Centerspread Editor Video By: Katie Kennedy and Kiley Bratton Halfway around the world, a little boy named Humphrey has the hope of a better life, thanks to Coppell High School’s Hope for Africa club. The club partnered with the Touch a Life Foundation, a Dallas-based organization, to sponsor 10-year-old Humphrey. Like many other children in the Lake Volta region of Ghana, West Africa, Humphrey had been sold into slavery by his family, said Hannah Yates, a senior and co-president of the club. “When Touch a Life found him, he had a really bad case of malaria,” Yates said, noting that it was a particularly severe case. “If Touch a Life hadn’t found him,…
