And then there was just one week

For the past 30 days, Muslims all across the world have been fasting from sun-up to sun-down as a ritual of the religious month of Ramadan.

Having started in late July, cutting 15 hours every day without any food or water in the brutal 100 degree heat was unthinkable at first. However, once the routine was under away time flew, and before we realized, there was only one more week to go.

Today marks what is religiously known as “Jummat-al-Vida”, but can be translated as the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.

Although this day is an auspicious occasion, exactly one week from today, thousands of Muslims will be leaving their homes with their families to go attend a massive prayer at the Dallas Convention Center.

The holiday is specifically known as “Eid-ul-Fitr” where we have a chance to celebrate the end of the holy month. We spend all day going to open houses and parties enjoying feasts of all kinds.

Several Muslims are looking forward to the festivities; I know I am. So if you don’t see me or any other Muslims at school next friday, know that we are most likely shoving food in our faces and enjoying every last bit of it.
