It is every artist’s dream to have their work shown to the public especially if that public is all across the nation. Art students of Mrs. Westervelt and Mrs. Winters have been given the opportunity have their abilities artistic talent and to be shown.

The Sanford Company owns Prismacolors and the company is launching their new product line. The company wants to start advertising a contest for the fall using high school art students. This started a regional project which involves art students from all over the meteroplex are competing in a T-shirt designing project.

To participate in the project art students must design a white T-shirt and jeans. The T-shirts are provided to the students and the students bring their own jean. Students must use the Prismacolors and Sharpies to make your design. There are some ground rules for the assignment. All designs must have a concept and there is no copying allowed it must be the students own design. The design must also be by hand. Other than that designs are completely up to the artists, students have designed anything from elaborate patterns to abstract flowers.

This freedom of choice to do absolutely anything has been difficult for some to grasp. Junior Tyler Vender is an IB Visual art student and this complete artistic freedom has stumped her.

“It is weird having complete freedom to do whatever we want, it makes it hard to narrow down my ideas,” Vender said.

The students will also get a chance to strut their stuff in a photo shoot where students will wear the designs. The photo shoot might also be used in a potential advertising campaign for Stanford Company Prismacolors.

The designs will hang in Michaels craft stores to promote their back to school line of products and to promote their fall contest which is the same as the project students did. However anyone can enter the fall contest. Plus the contest will include prizes from products to a trip to California.

The students are even more excited to break out and do other things in class. Junior Sarah Mithani who is a student of Mrs. Winters is ecstatic about breaking out from her old routine.

“It is nice to do something outside of normal class,” Mithani said. “This gives us a way to be completely free with our artistic ideas which doesn’t occur that often.”

Art teacher Mrs. Winters was a little worrisome about the project She was a little unsure of students reaction toward the project.

“I really didn’t get to excited about the project until I realized the students were excited about the project,” Winters said.

Students seem to get excited about the chance of their designs being shown to the public and a chance to receive free art supplies to further their artistic talents has many looking forward to the project.
