Train comes to Winstar before departing for UK

Mary Whitfill Staff Writer American rock band from San Francisco, Train, will come to Winstar Casino in Oklahoma tomorrow night. And oh yeah – I’ll be there. 62.8 miles might be too far for many to travel for a concert, but not for me as I have been waiting to go to a train concert for years. Yes, years. Nine to be exact. Ever since the release of their second album Drops of Jupiter, I have been head over heels for the band. The band, consisting of Patrick Monahan (vocals), Jimmy Stafford (lead guitarist) and Scott Underwood (drummer) achieved mainstream success with their 1998 debut album, Train. The single “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” was…

GOP witch hunt continues

by Blake Seitz It has recently been reported that Florida Governor Charlie Crist will run in 2010 as an Independent, rather than a Republican. For months, Crist has dropped in the polls. He is currently in second place with 30% of the expected vote after Republican Marco Rubio, at 37%. Crist’s switch is seen by some as the predictable outcome of a long-standing trend. Following Barack Obama’s landslide presidential victory in November of 2008,  the Republican party has become more reactionary and unforgiving of moderate behavior in its ranks. Many moderate Republicans–already a rare breed–have felt unwelcome. Crist is not alone in his switch; last year, Senator Arlen Spector switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. Even the intellectual…

Player rotation, among other things causing Mavs 3-1 deficit

By Travis Bremner Staff Writer The Dallas Mavericks are on the brink of being eliminated from the NBA playoffs short of their ultimate goal yet again tonight at the hands of their arch rival San Antonio Spurs. Down 3-1 in the series, odds are not in Dallas’ favor to come back and win – only eight out of 189 have every won a series when trailing 3-1. For this to have a chance, several things have to happen. 1. Drive the ball. The Mavericks are a jump shooting team, we all know this, but taking the basketball to the rim has to be the number one goal for this offensively. In games three and four…
