DENTON – The Coppell basketball team only has itself to blame for not moving onto the second round of the playoffs, as it lost 50-42 to Justin Northwest in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs at the Super Pit.

Sloppy play from the Cowboys, who finishes the season 16-17, led to turnovers and easy buckets for the Texans. Coppell missed multiple layups and free throws down the stretch.

As well as the players on the court, the fans of Justin Northwest win the battle of attendance and school spirit by a mile. Almost an entire section was filled with passionate Texan supporters.

The season took a turn for the worst when the suspensions came down on the three varsity front court players in the middle of the district season, and the Cowboys haven’t been able to recover.

Justin Northwest will now take on Plano West in the second round, which features top Texas football recruit Jackson Jeffcoat.

Fellow district mate Flower Mound also lost Tuesday night, to Hurst L.D. Bell. Flower Mound Marcus won handily, they will take on perennial power Duncanville in the second round. Lewisville won as well, it battles Cedar Hill.
