The first round matchup is set; Coppell will take on Justin Northwest in the bi-district round of the basketball postseason next Tuesday, February 23rd, at the University of North Texas.
The Texans finished atop the district 5-5A standings at 10-4 and 18-9 overall. They’re led by senior Edam Agbottah who averaged over 10 points and eight rebounds per game this season. Patience is key to their offense.
“They are quicker than us, but they’ll take their time offensively and be patient with the basketball,” Chasteen said.
Hurst L.D. Bell won the coin toss over Justin Northwest to either play Coppell or Flower Mound, L.D. Bell chose the Jaguars.
“We beat [L.D. Bell] pretty good at the Waterburger Tournament, but in the postseason all bets are off and every team is on the same level,” Chasteen said.
Coppell (16-16, 4-6 district 6-5A) backed into the playoffs, losing their last three games. They’ve had to deal with quite a bit of adversity with the suspension of three front court players.
Guards Andrew Bourg and Hunter Robinson head Coppell’s attack with 10.5 and 7.8 points per game, respectively. They will play a big factor in ball control tonight, something the Cowboys must do to win.
“We have to take care of the ball, [Justin Northwest] watched the tape of our game against Lewisville where we turned it over a bunch of times, Chasteen said. “We have to attack their press and get easy buckets.”
The game starts at 6:30pm, come out and support your Coppell Cowboys!
