Each year, the indoor Lakeside Carnival delivers fun and excitement to not only elementary school students, but to those of all ages, similar to the St. Ann Catholic Parish Carnival. This year, on Jan.30, though the Lakeside Carnival braved some cold weather blues, it still proved a success drawing quite the crowd.

The PTO hosted carnival was held from 3 to 7 p.m., and also included a silent auction.

“I remember the silent auction and playing all the games,” senior and former Lakeside Elementary student Ben Euhus said. “I used to go all the time, and it was great because it was a day where you actually saw your community.”

The carnival succeeded in providing such entertainment as balloon yo-yos, sandy candy, inflatables and a cake walk.

“I love the giant plastic tubes that you could fill up with different powder candy, that was basically a giant pixie stick,” senior and former Lakeside Elementary student Katie Kim said. “It was like as long as my arm at the time.”

In addition to candy and games, the silent auction offered  items such as athletic and beauty packages, a mosaic by all of the Lakeside students and even a Nintendo Wii.

There was also face painting, a crazy hair salon, wrist casts and Lakeside Longhorn temporary tattoos. Mooyah Burger & Fries also provided food for guests.

“I ate Mooyah, played golf, got sandy candy and played on the obstacle course,” Lakeside second grader Barrett said. “I also got my face painted with a baseball on it.”

The carnival works in a different manner than ordinary ones, as they do not charge for admittance into the school. Fundraising comes from food payment and tickets in order to play games. Also, money is earned from the silent auction.

“Our parents would give us coins they saved in a tin can and let us use that, and I’m sure I won the cake walk one day,” Euhus said. “It was much better than the St. Ann’s carnival because if you went to the school it was a fun day where you saw everyone you saw in the normal school day, and you even got to bid on teachers to hang out with.”

All in all, the carnival was a success, as it not only brought back memories for numerous Lakeside alumni, but it also created new ones for current Lakeside students.
