After starting the season 13-0 the Saints still came into the 44th Super Bowl as underdogs to reigning MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. In a battle of two of the most potent offenses in the NFL the score at halftime was 10-6 with Manning’s Colts holding the slight edge.
In the second half, the Saints overpowered the Colts, outscoring them 25 to 7. Drew Brees set the record for completions in a Super Bowl while leading his team to victory and Saints kicker, Garrett Hartley became the only kicker to make three field goals of 40 or more yards after his kick in the third quarter. The game shaped up nicely and the Colts even looked like they were going to make it interesting until Peyton Manning threw a pick six. So yes Peyton Manning is human after all.
The win for the Saints may have meant more to a city than any single win in NFL history as New Orleans attempts to finally pick itself up off the ground and make a new name for itself post Katrina.
