Ex-Cowboy Dunham signs with North Texas

Former Coppell Cowboy Blake Dunham signed a letter of intent to play football at the University of North Texas on Wednesday.

Dunham grow up in Coppell, attending East Middle School before Coppell High School for two years. He is the son of the popular Dallas sports radio station 1310 The Ticket host George Dunham.

When Dunham saw the chance to play for the Mean Green, he saw a great opportunity to play football in a place he is comfortable with.

“Both my parents went to UNT so I grew up around the campus and playing football there has always been a goal of mine,” Dunham said.

Dunham was an outside linebacker for the Argyle Eagles who went 12-1 this past season, their only loss coming at the hands of Please Grove in the playoffs.

Other schools showed some liking to Dunham, which is where the recruiting process usually gets on players mentally, but not in this case.

“I got interest from a few other schools, I really didn’t find [the process] too stressful. I thought it was cool and enjoyed it,” Dunham said.

Aside from winning, nothing gets a player happier than seeing a coach he approves of and an athletic department taking action to help improve the quality of the team, and Dunham is giddy with excitement.

“I like coach Todd Dodge and the rest of his staff at UNT, they are great guys and the type of coaches I want to play for,” Dunham said. “Also the facilities they have and the construction of the new stadium is all just very exciting and a lot to look forward to.”

Texas State came in a close second on Dunham’s list, but North Texas really hit home on the official recruiting visit.

“On my official visit to UNT I had a great time and was offered a scholarship,” Dunham said. “I really started to see the opportunity to play for my favorite team come true.”
