Biggest and brightest Full Moon of the year tonight
By: Renee Rohani Business Manager If the forecasted 33 degree weather permits tonight, be sure to step outside and look up to witness the biggest and brightest full moon of the whole year. According to www.spaceweather.com, the moon will be 14% wider and 30% wider tonight compared to full moons throughout the year. The Reason? The moon moves in an eliptical orbit around the Earth, meaning that it is sometimes very close to the Earth and sometimes far awar. This very closest point is called perigee. Once in a while, perigee coincides with a full moon, as it will tonight, making it appear its biggest and brightest. While you’re out there, look just to the…
The Pro Bowl
By Wren Culp Staff Writer The NFL is stupid. Not the football part. That’s what fans like I live for. But the Pro Bowl BEFORE the Super Bowl is just a waste of time and takes away emphasis from the important game. The Pro Bowl is a fun and entertaining football game where players relax and just play a friendly game of football. In history, the Pro Bowl has always been after the super bowl, so players who were in the Super Bowl could play in the game. But this year the NFL screwed up. The NFL scheduled the Pro Bowl for this Sunday, January 31st, 2009. The Super Bowl is not until February 7th.
Added privacy settings make social networking difficult
By Wren Culp Staff Writer The new trend in social networking is to update your information to stay in touch with people easier. But the popular site Facebook has taken things to an entirely new level. Back in February of 2004, Facebook was available to just Harvard students as a way to talk and communicate across campus. The man behind the site was Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg launched Facebook on February 4th, 2004 from his Harvard dorm room. The idea for Facebook came from his days at Phillips Exeter Academy, which has a long-standing tradition of publishing an annual student directory with headshot photos of all students, faculty, and staff known as the “Facebook”….
Prescription drugs prove dangerous at school
Satvika Ananth Rebecca Fowler Staff Writers Students have all heard about the dangers of drugs. From school and home they have received lectures upon lectures about the physical harm and punishments that come with taking illegal substances. However, many Coppell High School students do not realize that it’s not just the “big” drugs which are contraband, but also prescription drugs. “Prescription drugs can be as addictive as illegal ones,” CHS nurse Beth Dorn said. “Narcotics are prescription drugs, and they are very addictive.” Just because the bottle has your name on it does not mean you are allowed to carry it on campus. According to CHS Resource Officer Craig Parrish, students can be arrested for possession of…

Disney: My happy ending
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Ball gowns. Handsome princes. Talking animals. It must be Disney. With undeniable features and characters, Walt Disney’s multi-million company has become one of the most popular film corporations in America. From classic cartoons to special effect-packed movies, Disney has continued to impress, excite and enthrall us over the years. And it all began with a sweet fairy tale in 1937: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I’ll admit, it’s not one of the best quality films, but it was a huge feat at the time and is now a classic film watched by thousands of children. Followed by Pinocchio, Cinderella, Peter Pan and dozens of others, Disney soon marked itself…
Disney: Not always a happily-ever-after
Satvika Ananth Staff Writer I always wanted to be Cinderella. I wanted the transformation, the bitter revenge on an evil stepmother, the cute little mice friends and most of all, the packaged deal of Prince Charming and a beautiful castle. Not to mention the happily-ever-after. But then someone asked me, what happens after the happily-ever-after? The answer: There is no after. Think back to your first Disney movie. Whichever it was, there was inevitably a damsel in distress (or in love, which is much the same thing according to Disney) who simply could not escape her terrible fate. More often than not, this fate was also accorded to her by some vile-looking old woman or man with magical…
The iPad-success or setback?
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer What’s bigger than an iTouch but smaller than an iMac? That’s right, an iPad. This new and extremely innovative Apple product is the next best thing in computer technology. Like a blown-up version of the iPhone, the new device has all the best features of a touch-screen computer, yet its 9.7 inch screen provides for easier reading, typing and access. The iPad is just .5 inches thin and only 1.5 pounds, making it easier to carry and use anywhere. However, there have been complaints about it. One, for example, is the fact that it does not allow multitasking. You cannot, therefore, listen to radio on the internet and surf the…
Coppell hockey climbs in district rankings with last night’s win
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer The Coppell varsity hockey team proved themselves as being the best team Coppell has had in a while by beating Southlake Carroll, formerly the number one team in the division, 5-2 last night. The team’s win last night was crucial for the Cowboys to move up in the rankings and hopefully surpass Southlake when the district games come to an end. The team played a great game, especially considering that Brandon Harley, one of the assistant captains and key scorers for the team was sent to the penalty box for most of the game after complaining about getting a penalty in the first period. The Cowboys will play six…
