NFL says goodbye to great star in Warner

By Peter Sblendorio Staff Writer After 12 years as one of the most prolific passers in the NFL, QB Kurt Warner is calling it a career.  While much of the attention in the NFL has been focused on whether Brett Farve will return or not next year, the possible retirement of Warner has been overlooked. This should not be a surprise, as Warner was often overlooked among the NFL’s elite.  Warner is third all-time with a 93.7 quarterback passer rating and has won three conference titles, one of which (1999) leading to a Super Bowl victory with the Rams. In addition to that, Warner also tallied two MVP awards and four Pro Bowl selections.  With…

What not to wear during these cold, rainy days

With all the rain the last two days, students are bundling up to keep warm and dry. There are some that maybe aren’t making the best clothing decision when it comes to dressing for the weather. The temperature started out this morning at around 40 degrees. Though yesterday it was a little bit warmer, it’s still surprising to see students wearing shorts. Today especially, with the slowing dropping temperature, you’d think that you’d see most everyone wearing pants. I was shocked to find a few students walking in the halls with shorts on. Shorts should be reserved for warm weather with the coldest temperature for them being the high or middle 70′s. Those wearing them…

Do your part to help relieve Haitian families in need, whether it be through prayer, a tax-deductible monetary donation or enjoying the delicious home-baked desserts the Red Cross club was selling after school this week. Sidekick predicts winners for 52nd Grammys

By Chris Nguyen Features Editor Let’s not get anything confused. The Grammys are by and large the worst awards show of the four, otherwise known as the EGOT (Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys) by “30 Rock” fans. They are long, drawn-out and unlike the Oscars or even Emmys, do not try to even have street cred, going for the big industry singers and bands, like Beyonce. However, I love awards show and the totally awesome Lady Gaga is a confirmed guest so count me in. Here are my predictions for this year’s ceremony. Record of the Year “Halo” Beyonce “I Gotta Feeling” The Black Eyed Peas “Use Somebody” Kings of Leon “Poker Face” Lady Gaga “You…

2010 Winter Percussion Showcase this Saturday

Tomorrow, Jan. 30, the Coppell High School drum line will be performing their winter showcase entitled “Oddity”. The concert is free and will feature a number of pieces that members can only describe as, well, “odd”. “It’s different kind of concert,” senior Grayson Akerly said. “There’s going be odd instruments and normal instruments used in odd way. It’s going to show people a funny side to percussion ensembles.” This is the second year the winter showcase will be held, and for those who attended last year, expect to see something different. According to an advertisement announced during the Red jacket announcements, there will be a gorilla banging a gong during one of the pieces. “I…

Conan leaves empty hole in NBC

I’m trying to find the logic behind angering your biggest asset— besides their action/comedy “Chuck”, of course— in order to save a poorly rated show with an overrated host. Needless to say, I can’t come up with anything. NBC messed up. Big time. Okay, okay, I get it. This has been talked about so much lately that everything just seems repetitive now, but hear me out. I don’t truly blame Jay Leno for the injustices done upon Conan O’Brien this month. I just don’t really believe it when he says he feels bad about it. If he did care, he would’ve just retired instead of boarding a sinking ship. Whoever decided to save Leno at…

Boys soccer to compete with nation’s heavyweight

By Gaby Moran Staff Writer   Usually, for people to see the nation’s top teams in soccer compete against each other, they have to make a trip across the country. However, in this circumstance, people only have to travel to District 6-5A matches to see the best. According to ESPN Rise Fab 50, Coppell moved up 17 spots from last year to being ranked 16th in the nation this year. While that is very good, Coppell still has to compete against a few top of the teams in the nation before going to playoffs. “We’ve put a lot of work and practice into the preseason so we’re ready to see it all come together and…
