Live Nativity Scene warms the heart

Although not as prominent in the Coppell community as the carnival in the fall, St. Ann’s Catholic Parish also hosts a special Christmas tradition called the Live Nativity Scene.
The Live Nativity will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 and 19, as well as Sunday, Dec. 13 and 20. Performances will run from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., weather permitting. It is an outdoor performance held outdoors on the east side of the Parish.
For those who do not know, a Live Nativity scene is performed all over the world. It is a depiction of gospels Matthew and John in the Bible. Saint Francis of Assisi is credited with creating the first nativity scene in 1223.
The St. Ann’s Catholic Parish youth groups have a special seasonal presentation of the story of the birth of Jesus Christ directed towards the Coppell community. In Coppell, St. Ann’s Parish has held this long-standing tradition since 1994. Eighth graders of the parish involved with the EDGE youth group will be the cast of this live performance, along with donkeys and goats to truly grasp the aura of the stable scene which is such an integral part to the Catholic Church.
However, it is a quiet scene and viewers must behave appropriately. Colorful costumed actors, quiet music and realistic scenery surround the outdoor manger scene lit by candles. Viewers are encouraged to step outside of the cars into the crisp winter air and sip on hot chocolate provided by the church while enjoying the picturesque scene.
“Many families I’ve talked to over the years make it a part of their families Christmas tradition to come and see the Live Nativity every year,” St. Ann’s Catholic Parish Youth Director, Mike Leminger said.
The Live Nativity at St. Ann’s Parish is a free, family fun even with live animals and free hot chocolate. You do not have to be a member of the church to come view this beautiful portrayal of the birth of Jesus Christ.
