Nathan Reck Assistant Sports Editor After pulling out a 20 point victory in the opening round of the playoffs against Keller Coppell now faces the Plano East Panthers in a second round matchup that starts at 11 am Saturday morning at the Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium. In the opening round Plano East escaped with a win thanks to a 16 point fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime where a guttsy call to go for two gave the Panthers a one point victory over Irving MacArthur. The game featured two strong running games as both teams had at least 40 rushing attempts and over 200 yards on the ground. The Cowboys also featured a strong…

Intramural dodge ball back at CHS

By Peter Sblendorio Staff Writer While one popular intramural sport, Ultimate Frisbee, came to its conclusion last week, another one made its season debut. The first games of the six on six dodgeball season took place on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the gym at New Tech High in Coppell. Nine teams competed in what is the first week of a three-week season. Playoffs will be held on Dec. 17 for qualifying teams. This is the second year that CHS has offered dodgeball as intramural sport for its students, though last year it was held in the spring. The morning announcements at the high school, as well as constant reminders by the faculty at lunch, urged…

Three Films that look brilliant

“An Education” This film written by Nick Hornby is about a precocious young girl burgeoning on womanhood who meets an older man ( Peter Sarsgaard ) who introduces her to the world of adult life, and the bad that comes with it. The main actress Carey Mulligan has been praised so far in critical circles for her performance. Frankly it looks great, and it’s been out  since October 16. “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” Nick Cage’s performance in this film has been described as a tour-de-force in high camp. This film’s name describes what it’s about, a police officer who has drug and gambling problems investigates the killing of five Sengelease immigrants in post…

Paul Banks releases new solo album

After playing with Interpol on guitar and lead vocals for seven years, Paul Banks has just recently released his first solo album, Julian Plenti is…Skyscraper.  This new album, although not being a complete departure from Interpol’s sound with songs like “Games for Days” bringing back the punk rock feel that is Interpol’s norm, is a new direction for Banks and easily shows his artistic groove. The album however also dwelves into a more airy side of Banks artistic nature.  The album is filled with songs which, while they may stray from the hard rock sound akin to Bank’s earlier work, are given to a lighter, wispy sound.  “Skyscraper” itself holds a great blend of sound, starting from…

Top three remixes

“Electric Feel (Justice Remix)” by MGMT: I read many reviews of this song when I first bought it on iTunes, and was surprised to see that most didn’t enjoy the song. It made me hesitate a moment before clicking the “purchase” button, but despite bad reviews, I clicked anyways. Let me just tell you, it was the best purchase I’ve ever made. It takes the already dance-y version of MGMT’s original and adds the throbbing beats that is heard with Justice. It’s definitely one of my favorite remixes, and songs, of all times. “Knocked Up”originally by Kings of Leon, remix by Lykke Li: I’m never fond of someone taking one of my favorite songs, by…

Band members wear specialized jerseys

Every year, members of the CHS band and choir compete against each other in a no-pads, tackle football game. This may come as a shock to those of you who are not familiar with this. However, this is not a new tradition. Right now, the record stands band, two wins and choir, nine, which means the teams have met eleven times. And this year, the band team decided to pitch in for jerseys to give more credit to the organization of the game. The game is usually simple and the teams play to a certain number of points decided by the team coaches, normally 20 or 21. This year, the band team has practiced  close to a…

The question is no longer up for debate

It’s undeniable. We cannot debate it any longer. And on Sunday night we got the defining reason on why the Indianapolis Colts are the best football team in the league right now. This season the argument has come down between two teams, the Colts and the Saints. Let’s look at how each team did in week 10. The Saints traveled to St. Louis to battle the Rams in what seemed to be another easy victory for the unbeaten team. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees was 18-for-26 for 223 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Not horrible but certainly not where he should be at the moment. The 9-0 Colts stayed at home to take on…
