Two Coppell teachers share love for teaching, eachother

Couples share almost everything— A house, a car, a family. Two CHS teachers also share their job.

Coach Kody Groves is a Varsity/ Junior Varsity Football coach in addition to teaching World Geography. His wife, Mrs. Lindsey Groves, is a special education teacher at the high school.

The teachers met while they were attending Texas Tech University. Mrs. Groves began working at a Cardinals sports store where Coach Groves was a manager. After a year and a half, Mrs. Groves left the store but returned to work there shortly after.

“It’s actually still kind of funny to me how it happened,” Mrs. Groves said. “We knew each other for a year and a half while we worked there, but he didn’t really ask me on a date until after I had returned to work there the second time.”

Coach and Mrs. Groves were married half a year later and moved to Midland, Texas shortly afterward. At Midland, Coach Groves and Mrs. Groves taught at different schools in their area. Coach Groves taught at Lee High School, and his wife taught at Goddard Junior High.

“It was actually kind of interesting because our schools were rivals of each other, so that was pretty fun,” Coach Groves said.

Mrs. Groves, however, had a different take on the rivalry.

“It was sometimes difficult because I only got to attend the football games or events at Lee High, so I never got to see my students outside of class,” Mrs. Groves said. “Even though our schools were in the same district, [Coach Groves and I] were in totally different atmospheres.”

The move to Coppell High School came about when The Groves’ had their son.

“My parents live in Plano, and I’d wanted to move back there for a long time,” Mrs. Groves said. “We decided on the move so that our son could be closer to his grandparents. After that, everything sort of fell into place.”

Coach Groves got a job at Coppell High School as a football coach, and Mrs. Groves decided to apply for a teaching job as well.

“I’ve always known I wanted to work with special education because after college I worked in a program called Early Childhood Intervention (ECI),” Mrs. Groves said. “I got to work with babies that had disabilities and I loved it so much that I knew that if I ever was a teacher that’s what I wanted to do”.

Mrs. Groves now works as an English 1 and 2 Co-teacher with Coach Krug.

“My job is basically to add extra support to students with disabilities in regular classes,” Mrs. Groves said. “This way the students don’t have to be in the special education classes and can sit in their regular subject classes”.

Coach Groves and Mrs. Groves both are happy with the move from Midland to Coppell, and enjoy the opportunity to be able to work together.

“I’ve really been enjoying Coppell High School,” Mrs. Groves said. “I love that [Coach Groves] and I share the same kids and the same atmosphere.

“It’s great to have the school in common with her and get to experience all the events that are happening here at the same time,” Coach Groves said. “The kids here have a great attitude and put in a lot of effort.”
