SAS shoots for the sky in rocket launch Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Story by Peter Sblendorio Staff Writer Video by Tyler Morris Webmaster Coppell High School’s Aeroscience (SAS) class literally reached for the sky on Oct. 28, 2009, launching hand-made rockets into the air for the second time this year. Each fourth period student spent three days making their own rocket. Each rocket was roughly seven inches long and consisted of a body tube and nose cone. Students needed to add sand to the nose cone in order to move the center of gravity forward on their rocket. After more than a week of waiting for suitable weather conditions, the SAS students were able to launch their creations from the CHS practice fields behind the fieldhouse. Rockets…

What to do on Halloween

by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer It’s time again to celebrate America’s scary-sweet night time holiday. Fun dress-up, pumpkin carving and sugary chocolates and candies are only a few trademarks of this late October festivity. Yes, Cowboys and Cowgirls, Halloween is right around the corner! This year there are plenty of options to choose from to plan your Saturday day and night. First and foremost comes trick-or-treating. Although as high schoolers we may feel that we’re too old for this fun-loving experience -knocking on doors of nieghbors, unrecognizable from head to toe and repeating the nostalgic 3-word jingle- we’re really not (or atleast I like to think so)! Anyways, just remember than in a couple years you…

Five songs you should be listening to

By Mary Whitfill Staff Writer 1. Remembering Sunday – All Time Low While the All Time Low fad died down a while back, this song is not anything you can miss. It’s a story about an alcoholic, missing girl, and someone who doesn’t believe in love. Also, it is a story about someone determined to believe in love, recovering alcoholic, and a girl who promises to be there forever. 2. Jasey Rae – All Time Low Also making my list, Jasey Rae (acoustic version) is a song about a boy mourning a loss, but it is done is such a catchy and heart touching way that the words no longer seem sad. You’ll play it…

Last home game serves as farewell to Buddy Echols Field for Seniors

Staff Writer Frances Ruiz As a student who gets into the action of football games, I can always be seen yelling and cheering at the Coppell stadium on Friday nights. No matter if its pouring down rain or incredibly hot, I love the excitement and rush generated at each and every game. So with Coppell’s last home game rapidly approaching, I’m sad to say goodbye to Buddy Echols Field. Tonight’s game has been appropriately themed Senior Night for the students who have crammed in the bleachers and stuck on Coppell tattoos for the past four years. As the last time I’ll be cheering on our Coppell Cowboys at home, I’ve come to realize how little time I have left at Coppell High School. Having spent my time stressing…

Coppell looks to harvest Farmers

By Andy Tabor Staff Writer The Coppell Cowboys look to stay in second place in district tonight against the Lewisville Fighting Farmers.  This is a must win for the Cowboys, who could clinch a playoff spot in the tough and parity filled district 6-5A. Lewisville comes limping in at 0-3 in district play and 2-6 overall.  Coppell comes into the game 7-1 and 2-1 in district with their only loss being at Southlake Carroll. This game should be a high scoring affair for the Cowboys, given that the Lewisville defense has given up at least 50 points in every district game while the Cowboys rattled off an impressive 42 points against a tough Flower Mound…

By Divya Kumar News Editor This weekend, the Academic Decathalon team at Coppell High School traveled to Rockwall High School in order to participate in a mock competition. This year, Rockwall was home to 14 teams preparing to compete later in the regional compeition in January, one being from Arizona and the other 13 from various regions in Texas. Tennis team to face El Paso Franklin at Regionals

By Blake Seitz Sports Editor Following a decisive 10-5 win in the district championship, the tennis team heads to Abilene this weekend for the Regional tournament. It will play its first match tomorrow against El Paso Franklin. This marks the 12th year in a row that Coppell has attended the tournament, a statistic that goes hand-in-hand with the team’s streak of district championships—the team has not attended the tournament as anything less than the district’s number one seed. Top seeding in district gives Coppell a leg up in the tournament. “Ones play twos,” head coach Jane Jackson said. “This guarantees we won’t play a championship team in the first round.” The nature of Texas tennis,…

Premature concerns about Prom

By Angela Almeida                                                                                                        Opinions Editor Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this month is October. That being said, there is six months between now and Prom. Six overbearing, stressful months of college applications and anticipation leading up to graduation. Thus, why do I seem to be hearing about the trials and tribulations leading up to Prom, now? I can attest to thinking a time or two about a dress or maybe even a date. But worrying about it at this point in our senior year seems quite premature. I promise you, getting a date is not a do or die. Granted, it is somewhat of a highschool staple for the coveted “before prom pictures”, however…
