Top 3 songs of the week
Rarely do I have much down time during the week to browse the web for new music, but when I get the chance to, it’s always interesting to see what I’ll find. I somehow found the time this week to find some new music to listen to, and also the time to write about them.
“Crown on the Ground” by Sleigh Bells: Pitchfork.com is a good place to find new music. The site posts new reviewed tracks each week, and this happened to be one. A friend of mine said it was absolutely necessary that I listen to it. The first thing I thought it when hearing it was that it was very loud. Even with the sound turned down to a reasonable volume, it still hurt my eardrums. The songs quick, catchy, and if it doesn’t hurt your ears even a little bit when you listen to it, it’s not loud enough.
“11th Dimension” by Julian Casablancas: Though the song was released on October 2nd, I was doing my best not to listen to one track of Casablancas’ new solo album due out November 3rd. After seeing it in so many places though, I finally gave in. I was missing out such a good song, and to make up for it, I listen to it a lot. It’s reminiscent of Casablancas’ other band, The Strokes, but with a newer sound.
“Vlad the Impaler” by Kasabian: I always get in these moods where I listen to one band for a while, and I’ve been listening to Kasabian a lot recently. Their song “Vlad the Impaler” is my favorite of their album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, that was dropped earlier this year. It’s dark and sinister but has this beat that makes you want to dance more than it makes you want to thrash your head around.
